Besides learning by heart, people need to visualize the one border countries, their size, shapes and positions of borders.Example: if someone guess Gambia, he/she knows that it is almost completely surrounded by Senegal, that they form very long border, besides the size of Gambia. This is a quiz where people need to think, because of that it is brilliant.
You have an excellent point, and I couldn't agree more! (I actually typed Haiti multiple times because it's large in area, but obviously not border length).
For me, the last one is the most-counterintuitive, since I automatically think of it as a microstate, and not one with a long border!
