I am not against an extra version where no countries are listed besides the oceania ones ;) I seem to type all the islands besides the right one 3 times. And tuvalu and vanuatu even more because I mix those 2 up, similar letters and right after typing I forget which I ve tried. Must have wasted 5 minutes just on those haha
1. have a 'random' version with just 20 countries and have a harder version where countries turn back to white after they are guessed
2. I think the only area that doesn't work too well is the one with small Caribbean countries. Maybe next to the arrow you could have a magnified map of the area or of the shape of the single country that disappears after it's guessed, like the arrow does?
You should try working toward that hard version. Personally that seems like the type of quiz that would be really challenging for me but something I know how to do, which is my favorite type of quiz.
Man is it annoying completing a big quiz like this, and then your internet/Jetpunk has a poop and you're stuck loading for eternity until you reload the page...
This has been fixed now! Somebody suggested it on the subreddit and QM added it, so now you can see the stats even if your internet fails, and then "submit" your score once your internet returns.
21:59 for me! I guess I could shave a minute off if I didn't have to go through half the caribbean and oceanian countries before guessing the right one :-)
Got 23:42 left with some typos and still struggled with Caribbean countries, Oceania is actually not that hard. With a perfect run I guess I could do 24:15 left, in order no pressing TAB if I don't know
first attempt got it with over 10 minutes remaining, but I wanted to quit with the Caribbean and Pacific islands. Stuck with it though! Tough, tough quiz, but as you fill in countries, it gets easier.
I'll admit the only way I could get through this was to bypass the random order by 'tabbing' through the progress bar until I got the larger countries. That filled in the major areas of the map and gave context to gradually get the rest of them. Basically impossible to go in an assigned order if you start with tiny nations in a sea of white.
I didn't know you could tab through this one! So yeah started with lots of minor countries. Pretty sure I typed all the minor Caribbean ones 6-7 times each.
doing it in order is a challenge with the small countries, but that's what makes it great! Is it the Vatican, San Marino or Monaco? Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, or Nauru? Which of the Carribean Saints might this be? Lots of fun! Really helps to know the shapes.
Great quiz! This was so fun to do and easier than I thought it would be. It arguably got much easier as the countries filled in. I agree with a previous commenter about having an even harder version that doesn't fill in the map once you've guessed the country: for those masochists among us.
If it is left on the map it is left on the map.. if it is right it is right. A dot on the right side wont be st lucia and on the left wont be nauru. So "no idea about location" is hugely exaggerated, you atleast know the rough location and therefore the continent.
Had absolutely no idea what was going on, the first two countries I got were seychelles and nauru and each just showed a green dot on a white background, lol.
Great quiz! The only difficulty was in getting a big enough country to pop up for me to get started with. Good amount of time, everything else good. :-)
Fabulous! Two thoughts: (a) how about also doing a version that starts with everything displayed then they disappear one-by-one on guessing, until you finally have to guess a solitary country floating out there somewhere, and (b) with most people guessing them all, this would be a good quiz to also display, in the answer stats, a bar-graph showing times taken (say in one-minute intervals) to get 100%?
This is one of the best quizzes I have seen in a while. Great job! Also, with the times listed above, and the fact that I, a mediocre quizzer at best, also got 16:53, the time could definitely be shaved by maybe ten minutes. Amazing quiz though, it was seriously fun, and the Caribbean was a nice challenge. Are the Grenadines too small to be included for St Vincent? I kept wondering why Grenada wasn't working.
what would the benefit be of having less time? if you completed it what does the remaining time matter?
Meanwhile it matters a lot for people that havent mastered all the countries, arent fast typers or hate being stressed by the clock, dont know you can use tab (I didnt) or choose not to use it.
So you would spoil the fun for many many people, why? just so your timer will show 6:53 instead of 16:53 after you have finished?
Great quiz. I was somewhat shafted from the start when I got a blue blob in the bottom right hand corner. Needless to say it was the last pacific island country I tried. It is tricky with them and the Caribbean Islands as you have to constantly zoom in and the map doesn't zoom out when you get it.
This quiz isn't about speed typing. You need time for people to actually think I'm between answers, hence why the time is double the Countries of the World Quiz, as this requires more thought.
yes, because it is awful to finish with 20 minutes on the timer. do you get flogged for each minute you have left on the timer or something? In that case I advise you to type slower, Im sure it is a lot less painfull if you finish with less time on the timer left..
Great quiz. You can get stuck for a while guessing some of the really small islands especially if you don't have some larger countries already filled in to give you some reference points. Managed to finish with 2 seconds left, desperately hoping I could spell Kyrgyzstan correctly.
Survey: on this quiz, is it cheating to hit "Tab" to move on to the next country if you don't know one, eventually cycling back to it once the map is more full?
You could say it is available to pause the timer and look answers up, but I think everyone would agree that would be cheating too. Just because something is possible/available doesnt mean it is "fair game" . (You could even go as far as saying during an exam, if the examinator leaves for the toilet and he has the answers on his desk, well they are available arent they? People can only cheat if it is possible, it being possible doesnt mean it is not cheating).
In my opinion it is, since it is against the purpose of this quiz which is to answer in order. Different from yellow box quizzes where the purpose of the quiz is not to do it in order (just to prevent accidental correct guesses for the other questions). For those quizzes it is not cheating.
the idea is to answer the country you are given. Not just a country of your own choice. (That would be an entirely different quiz)
There's a huge black border in the map which is very broad at the two sides and the top but kind of flat at the bottom. I use it in my Android and I don't think it's anything planned.
Wow, that was challenging! I did it 100% with 11:06 left. Great quiz. Qatar really stopped me in my tracks! I was trying Israel, Lebanon, Palestine... !! And the small island nations! Those are the only ones I can't point to on a map. To all my fellow Americans-- if I can get 100%, so can you! :-)
Yep, Americans need to learn geography better. Luckily, America has me too :) 10:32 left but I have to say the Caribbean and Pacific island nations were especially tough
Awesome quiz, and boy do I need to work on my island locations. For Oceania and the Caribbean I had to keep running through the list and of course, the right answer was always the last one. Go figure.
Love this quiz! Was barely able to complete it in time...didn't know I could tab forward, either. Might have had less sweat as it started counting down to near a minute.
Hey there, loved this quiz! Wanted a version with capitals instead of countries, so I copyed your quiz, and changed the answers to capitals instead. Since all I did was change the answers, I wouldn't be comfortable with posting it myself, and I was hoping you would take it over.
Whooops, really sorry I missed this comment Vikken! Not sure how I did... Anyway it's fine by me as long as you credit in the description / caveat! Look forward to it :)
I got it all with "only" 8:27 left on the first try. I'm happy I managed to finish without "tabbing" back and forth (I only found out about this option after reading the comments). Starting with one of the Pacific island nations was a real challenge though.
Thought it was a bit cheaty of me to just type random oceania/carribean countries until I got the right one, but at the same time I don't really think there's a realistic better way to do it. No one's gonna memorize which islands are in which areas.
I think that you should give us less time. I finished this in less time than the time given for the Countries of the World quiz. Finished with 16:31 to spare.
I am so glad I got that on the first try (just barely squeaked in under 29 min!), because there's no way I'd want to do it twice. I have hardly any idea which country is which in Oceania or the Caribbean (except for the big ones like Haiti), so I did a ton of guessing. The Balkans nearly killed me too.
Nine, 22:32 left. The Caribbean was definitely difficult, but Antigua and Barbuda and St. Kitts top, Dominica and St. Lucia middle, Trinidad, Grenada, and St. Vincent south and Barbados south-east helped me shave off some time.
When I see an island nation in Oceania, I just start going through the names, one after another until I hit on the right one - basically by accident - I think it's time I finally learnt where they all actually are.
But, I love this quiz and it's one I can imagine doing again and again.
It feels so good to do it without skipping anything, in the order given :D (12:54 remaining, apparently not my fastest, but I don't remember what I did last time)
It's (mostly) the same projection as the JetPunk World Map, which is equirectangular (with some linear scaling in the vertical direction). However, this map was slightly modified to allow the smaller countries to be a bit larger without the map looking awful. For those with a keen eye, this slight deviation may be noticeable :)
This is the 'easy' version right, Stewie? I shudder to think of what the 'hard' version will be like. Be-that-as-it-may, my heart will go on. Also, you are quite impressive here on this site. Your fan club is legion. I am one of them now. Stewie Fan #362,0650. I lead a life of crime. 😁
Probably my favourite ever quiz! 11:06 left and found Africa and the Caribbean ones tricky so just quickly typed as many as possible but managed them all. Excellent idea, thank you.
Almost ran out of time, but got the last one with 53 seconds to go. Had a tough time the the Oceania small countries. Good quiz for people who already know all of the countries.
This is officially my new favourite quiz! It features all countries, as the countries of the world does, but adds the right amount of spice and unpredictability that makes it better. Great quiz really.
Nearly got it in less than ten minutes but messed up Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Turkmenistan at the very end though. Still happy and had 19 minutes and 49 seconds remaining
Oh my god!!!! This is most challenging. Got blasted by the tiny counties in Oceania and the Caribbean. kept forgetting where i was in the world. i think this is going to take a while to master. Excellent quiz!!
Holy cow, what a quiz!! Took it all the way down to 38 seconds because I kept typing Grenadines instead of Grenada on the last island, haha, but finally discovered my error in time. Way too stressful for my poor heart.

P.S '51.8% of test takers also got 196'
only on jetpunk ;)
My first was Mexico- my last was Eswatini!

Especially when the country I'm trying to guess is actually Tajikistan.
Okay, this one might be on me...
But, I love this quiz and it's one I can imagine doing again and again.
- Some are made up of many islands and some are just one or only a few islands;
- There's a group that's south-east of PNG and a group that's south-east of the Philippines.
hard at the start but gets easier with time
Not my best :)
Plzz shout out...
The hardest part was guessing the countries/islands in either the caribean sea, and in the pacific.
Quite easy, though I do love maps and flags (plus Harry Potter/Star Wars).
Great quiz, any more like it?
First, complete the quiz in 4.75 seconds.
Second, collect your 5/5 marks.
Third, post wry comment about how you must do better next time and
Four, move on to another quiz.
You do realise you don't have to sit there twiddling your thumbs for the remaining 29 minutes and 55.25 seconds don't you?
Thank you Stewart, great fun as always.
