they are trying to escape there. Interesting fact they tell you on the tour, If they did go West over the mountains from where they are, they would have reached the German border and a large Nazi outpost. The real family took didn't go anywhere near the hills as they went south first.
The movie, and the real life story on which it is based, took place in Salzburg, Austria. The family escaped Austria to Switzerland, and ultimately ended up in America.
Why hasn't anyone pointed out that, regardless of the correct spelling of Sol in the Solfege scale, it must be So in the song lyrics because "Sol - a needle pulling thread" doesn't make any sense! It must be So because it has to sound like Sew. Please change it back!
people are missing La because they're probably British like me and tried "A song I like to sing." rather than "A note to follow So." I personally had never heard the second version, I'm assuming its an American thing. Great Quiz though.
Looking into it, it seems that the "official" spellings of many of the note names depends on whom you ask. (Look up 'Tonic sol-fa,' and 'Solfege' for a lot more than you probably ever cared to know.) Sol also sometimes is rendered so or soh, while Do is sometimes rendered doh. And, there are a number of other variations...
It really should not be the Swiss Flag as the family came from Austria and the film takes place there. It is only at the end that they reach the Swiss border but the entire film is all about AUSTRIA.
Can you please make it so that those of us who type in "Sol" get the same credit as those who type in "So" for the second to last line ? The "L" at the end of "Sol" is silent and should be spelled properly as "Sol" I believe. thanks
...unless you make a typo somewhere else in the line, realize it when you finish typing, then go back to erase the typo but it isn't accepted because "sol" is already in-place at the end.
Actually, the family was from Bhutan, but the film takes place in the Kamchatka region of Russia. At the end, they all get beamed up to the Starship Enterprise, which flies directly over Swiss airspace. Hence, the flag of Switzerland. (I can't believe I have to explain this stuff)
The modern spelling is more commonly So. But the main thing that annoys me is that the word is spelt differently in both places in the quiz. Just burn the whole website down and start again.
I would change Sol back to So. Who cares if the notes are taken from "solfege," isn't this based on the lyrics from the film? The lyrics are clearly "So" not "Sol" and "Sol" does not sound like "sew" so it's confusing.
and googling to subject reveals that both are in common use and not just in the lyrics of the song in the film, but on musical sites about teaching notes and intervals, as well. So, it would make sense to change it back.
I love the song, but I've always thought that the lyrics for la were originally just a placeholder. The songwriter got stumped on la, but the lyric for ti almost wrote itself. So the songwriter wrote down "a note to follow sol" and figured inspiration might hit later, but it never did.
I love the Sound of Music - I went to Salzburg, Austria a few years ago and visited many of the actual locations where the musical was filmed. One of the most beautiful places I have been to! :):)
Aced this, almost the easiest 5 points on JetPunk, but the Winnie the Pooh quiz was easier. It doesn't really matter what the quiz is. As long as I get points for it, I'm fine.
As I've seen a few other people point out, even though correct spelling is "Sol" it doesn't make sense in the context of the song considering she is singling about sewing causing "Sol" to ruin that line. It should be changed back and if you're worried about people moaning just add it into the description for reasoning and if you look up the lyrics of the song it says "so".
Since the Swiss flag is still up here on a movie that takes place in Austria, will these countries become permanent type-ins for each other on the website? ;)
It's also been sang by The Tartan Army ever since Scotland travelled to Austria for World Cup 1998 qualifiers. Hampden Park with 50000 Scots (many in kilts) regularly bounces to this tune
It isn't So, it's Sol.

(Unless the ´l´ is supposed to be silent, in which case, please disregard this.)

A Bhutanese family has been beamed up in result of a following war between the Cardssians and the Humans.
They started to sing and dance through the bridge, so they are now in the torpedo tubes ready to travel back to earth.
