Can you name all independent municipalities (cities, towns, and villages) of Hungary? Source of data: https://data2.openstreetmap.hu/hatarok/index.php?admin=8
Special thank you to BM
Dear map creator, how did you manage to simplify all the svg paths? Whenever I use inkscape to simplify all the paths at once, my whole map gets distorted. I am trying to create map quiz of all the municipalities of my home country. Thank you in advance.
Dear chlapcek, I used the Simplify tool of Mapshaper (https://mapshaper.org) to convert shapefiles to SVG. Please note that I am also a beginner in SVG manipulation. You can spot some mistakes on this map, too, such as the simplified county borders not aligning with the simplified municipality borders. Depending on the original file's size, SVGOMG (https://svgomg.net) can also be helpful. Just make sure you set the precision right and disable options such as "merge paths". (Other simplifications might mess up your labels, beware of that.)
Thank you for the suggestion, Mapshaper did the job (After solving loads of SVG problems). Unfortunately I had to waste quite some time on debugging the svg id's, because a lot of shapes were not recognized by Jetpunk. In the end it turns out the spaces and special characters (such as ( and ) ) mess up the Jetpunk graphic engine, removing them solved some the problems. I will probably write a guide about this, because I had a horrible experience. However I am grateful for your response because the SVGOMG tool also helped me enormously (with the right settings) with compressing the SVG file. Have a nice day!
I'm glad I was able to help. SVGOMG is a tool also recommended by the Jetpunk SVG tutorial and is probably the best among those. However, in simplifying borders, I feel that Mapshaper outperforms it.
Sadly, I could only get a very low score on your quiz :) You, too, have a nice day!
