Why exclude Alaska from the definition? It would only add 2 Alaskan cities, and it's clearly part of the Pacific Northwest.

I was using the definition that just counts the panhandle, which doesn't have any cities that are big enough. But you're right, if I were to include all of Alaska there would be 3 (Anchorage, Fairbanks, Wasilla).

I've heard of many small towns in Washington with over 40,000 residents like Lynnwood and Edmonds as a couple examples.
