Good quiz. New York is actually the name of the city. City is added colloquially to avoid confusion with the state, which has the same name. The postal address is New York, New York.

I knew that something is strange with New York/New York City. The Wikipedia site lists this city actually as "New York City" so I wasn't sure what the correct name of the city is. Also, the JetPunk quiz "Biggest Cities in the US" lists this city as New York City.

There are inconsistencies in wikipedia..The article List of Cities in New York (state) has the city as just New York. The official website nyc.gov uses the name City of New York. Similarly, the state's website ny.gov gives its name as The State of New York.
