It's my personal opinion that the risks of Catalonian independence outweigh the rewards. I can't imagine significant improvements in the lives of Catalonians if independence is achieved. However, there are large risks to the European community at large if other wealthy regions seek to secede. I don't believe that historical injustices are a good reason for independence. We should be asking if independence will make lives better in the future.
Before even talking about indepenence you have to have a majority of your population supporting it. While the media makes a lot of noise about secessionists, it is a fact (given by the 2017 Autonomical elections) that a majority of catalans don't want indepenence.
We don't say "crema catalana" but simply "crema". We don't say "crema catalana" for the same reason our enemies don't call Felipe VI "the spanish king" but simply "the king".

One more thing. Franco didn't supress Catalans (Well, at least not all). He for sure tried to supress Catalan culture and language.
