its good to see that Kingston, Jamaica and Kingstown, St Vincent's and the Grenadines have the same percentage seeing how Kingston accepts Kingstown as well. I would've been worried if they were different percentages.
Hey! You finally accepted Mexico, D.F. for "Mexico City!" Cool beans. Though... why you accept Guatemala for "Guatemala City," while at the same time not accepting simply Mexico or Panama, remains a mystery.
Locally, people call Guatemala City simply Guatemala. I don't believe this is true for Panama City or Mexico City. So hopefully that solves the mystery for you.
Quizmaster, locally Mexicans call Mexico City as México, or DF. Furthermore, while road signs in freeways pointing cities like Ciudad Juárez, Ciudad Obregón or Ciudad Victoria have at least the "Cd." (Ciudad) prepended to them, road signs pointing Mexico City only say "México", without "Cd."
and, locally, Kuwait City is "Al Kuwayt," similar to "Ad Dammam," "Al Khobar," or "Ar Riyadh." "City" was just tacked on by English-speakers to differentiate from the country. Like all of these.
My mom's from St Vincent and the Grenadines and she'd be most disappointed to know that everyone gets a freebie with Kingstown when they type Kingston for Jamaica.
Extremely strange. But... maybe QM will come around some day like he finally did on the Myanmar issue. Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait should all be acceptable as names for their cities. And possibly Andorra.
I'm yet to be convinced about Andorra, given that in its surrounding countries: Spanish name: Andorra la Vieja (anˈdɔrra la ˈbjexa). French name: Andorre la Vieille (ɑ̃dɔr la vjɛj).
Perhaps when we have a native Andorran (is that the right demonym?) we can be accurately guided.
I'm pretty sure that 88% of people on this site have not heard of SV & G. It's sad that it works for both Jamaica and St. VIncent, even though they are pronounced differently. If people don't know it, they learn it!
Excellent! Got them all with 3:33 remaining at 6:28:20 PM on March 5, 2019. I memorized these as part of working up to memorizing all the world capitals, and thus getting a perfect score on the World Capitals Quiz.
Stating your score and time remaining seems reasonable, but including the date and time at which you completed the quiz, correct to the nearest second, seems excessive to me.
Would it be possible to change the automatic type-ins for Kingston, to disallow Kingstown to also be filled in when typing the capital of Jamaica? And vice versa?
Believe what you want, but if you've been on Jetpunk long enough to get to level 43 I'm surprised you would have so little confidence in the knowledge base of regular users of the site. Many of us are geography nerds, and Tegucigalpa is a fairly distinctive and memorable as far as capitals go, at least in my opinion.
I've known since I was eight. It's easy to remember specifically because it is such an unusual name, just like Ouagadouga, Burkina Faso, and Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Panama (Ciudad)
Mexico, DF (the DF being as necessary to the name as the DC in Washington)
Perhaps when we have a native Andorran (is that the right demonym?) we can be accurately guided.
This name...
