Read the name of the colonial territory and then identify the present-day sovereign state(s) that contain its territory.
The first letter of each answer is given in the column preceding the answer.
Background:
- During the Viking Age, the territory that today comprises Sweden was not a unified country. Among the peoples who inhabited the area were the Varangians, who are mentioned in this quiz.
- From 1537 until 1814, Denmark and Norway were united as a single sovereign state, then referred to as the Dano-Norwegian Realm, Twin Realms, or the Oldenburg Monarchy, but today usually called the Kingdom of Denmark-Norway in English.
- The post-Viking Age Nordic countries were not prolific colonizers, so they are all combined into this single quiz.

A given territory may have changed hands multiple times before becoming a sovereign state. Therefore, the end date of the colonial territory is not necessarily the same year the colony became independent or lost territory to the sovereign state that is the answer.
