To qualify as an answer to this quiz, a “territory”
- Must have its own official flag
- Must have at least one permanent civilian settlement
- Must be at least one of:
— an insular subdivision of a sovereign state, including overseas territories and collectivities, dependencies, constituent countries, special municipalities, states, provinces, etc.
— a non-contiguous mainland subdivision of a sovereign state
— an insular country in free association with a sovereign state, but without full sovereignty
- May be a constituent part of a larger named territory
