^From a guy who admires Pol Pot your attacks mean very little. Now if you see this you're going to lie and imply that you didn't mean it literally. Give it a rest already.
He was one of the authors of the Kellogg-Briand Act. That document circulated internationally, causing many nations to renounce war as a means of political leverage. It was ratified shortly before WWII.
Interesting quiz. I only got 21 but that was enough to put me in the 94th percentile. Too bad that the prize used to mean something.. and then it basically became a big joke when they gave one to terrorist Yasser Arafat. As if to drive home the point of their descent into self-parody, then they decided to hand out awards to Al Gore (for making a movie that had nothing to do with peace), Barack Obama (for being elected), and the European Union (for.... ???? ) in less than a decade.
Kissinger is the worse offender, IMO. Absolutely no justification for this one. I can see the reasoning between Arafat and Rabin, but they should not have won it. And giving it to Obama was just ridiculous.
The EU is justifiable, I'm sure. They certainly work for peace and have been able to maintain it within their borders. But surely there were/are much better candidates.
The peace and literature Nobel prizes are becoming more and more a joke. They are being given to completely undeserving recipients, and it's more about politics than actual merits.
Rabin was actually quite a cool guy, who changed his opinion about Israeli politics later in life and even died because of that killed by a real terrorist.
But do not forget as early as in 1979 the prize was awarded to an Israeli hard-line terrorist and war criminal Menachem Begin for literally nothing at all, just because Egypt decided to recognize Israel.
They hand out a prize money of about 1.5 million US-Dollars. What are the EU or Obama gonna do with that? Seems more reasonable to give the money to individuals or organizations that need it to continue their work.
Kind of wonder when you think it meant something. Woodrow "kept us out of war but actually didn't whilst being unspeakably racist" Wilson for proposing the League of Nations which didn't work at all and effectively did nothing? Or is the second decade already too late?
No question that a lot of undeserving people have got one, but really how does one measure contributions to peace? So I guess I'll cut them some slack.
One or two? I can list at list four: Kissinger, Arafat, Obama and Menachem Begin. Even the 1993 combo of Mandela and de Klerk is somewhat controversial - one terrorist and one apartheid racist - though there is a reasoning behind that.
I didn't come up with many and the only way I came up with what I did was thinking of the most useless and/or undeserving names since the awards inception. The only award (not in the entertainment business) that is given out to the most worthless of people/organizations.
Not at all considering it wasn't just named after him, it was created and envisioned by him. If I recall, the story goes that when Alfred Nobel's brother died, a major newspaper in Sweden mistakenly thought Alfred died and published a *very* unflattering obituary titling him as the 'Merchant of Death.' Needless to say he was hurt by this and, in an effort to improve his legacy, devised a group of awards to honor the world's foremost figures of peace, literature, chemistry, medicine/physiology, and physics.
1997: The International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with its international coordinator, Jody Williams. The ICBL is missing from the list. Also: The "Institute of International Law" should be acceptable, not just its French translation. And the International Peace Bureau is often called simply "the Bureau". Thanks!
I'm sure this won't last, but the Obama listing on the Peace Price entry on Wikipedia currently states he was presented the award "for his extraordinary efforts to drone strike the Middle East." +1 for accuracy.
Not really, it actually says "On October 9, 2009, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that Obama had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize 'for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.'
A tad more leeway on the spelling for 1986’s winner, please. Ohh and also if you could accept whatever wrong spelling I tried for 1990’s winner that would be nice too! Lol
1. Henry Kissinger for carpet-bombing of Laos and Cambodia during Vietnam war & his role in Operation Condor and in mass killings in Suharto´s Indonesia
2. Menachem Begin for initiating war and terrorism in British Palestine & instigation of Lebanese civil war and massacres in Sabra and Shatila & Egypt´s recognition of Israel
3. Arafat for spreading terrorism worldwide with unification of Islamist and communist groups and huge contibution to Lebanese civil war
4. Obama for having dark skin & his efforts to drone-strike the Middle East and principal role in the destruction of Libya
5. Al Gore for professional spreading of fake news about global warming/climate change via fabricated "documentary"
6. Mandela and de Klerk for leading racist apartheid regime & for leading terror campaign to allegedly stop it
7. Mother Theresa for Christian fundamentalism & her opposition to pain killers and modern discoveries
Oh, and I almost forgot honourable mention of prizes, that did not age well:
Suu Kyi and Abiy Ahmed
But jokes aside, it´s pretty sad to see such individuals next to organizations like IAEA, OPCW, Red Cross or MSF and personalities like Nadia Murad, Malala Yousafzai or Muhammad Yunus.
But Luthuli will work now

Well... that didn't age well, did it?
(Still, I don't disagree with your point.)
