I understand that...there are quite a few actors that no matter how many quizzes I take, I cannot remember their names. The two that come to mind for me are Anthony Hopkins and Gene Hackman. Don't know why, but in a pinch, I never remember their names.

Same. I know his face but I immediately think Jeff Bridges, then I can't get that out of my head.

He turned the battle around for the Union in "Gettysburg" as Joshua Chamberlain. I can't get that big mustache out of my head every time I see him....except if I see him as Chamberlain then I expect him to wave a fart at a soldier.

This might be a bit pedantic, but speaking as a competitive chess player, very few games end with the word "checkmate". Most end with the word "resigns" (or "I resign" if spoken). Checkmate is relatively rare in competition.

The question was: "What is said when a game of chess is won." Quiz Master didn't ask for alternate ways of ending a chess match!

READ THE QUESTION.

As a non competitive chess player I agree with CBTemple here. The question seems poorly worded to me.

I don't know if they were technically "bestselling," like number one in sales, but Boston was also a pretty well known band named after a city. They did "More Than a Feeling."

I thought that was an odd one. I didn't think of Boston, but I thought "I bet there's more than one!" Also, the question could narrow it down a bit and say it's an American city.

I thought Boston as well, but I think they only put out two albums and I'm pretty sure Chicago has more than that. Also, can't believe I spaced on NYC.

The question says "THE" best-selling band. Chicago has sold more albums than Boston, Berlin, and any other band named after a city. Unless possibly "Eagles" is the name of a city somewhere, which, quite honestly, it might be.

"Eagle" (singular) is the name of a couple of cities plus several more towns, villages and other settlements however so far as I can tell, "Eagles" (plural) isn't. And definitely not "The Eagles." 😁

On the other hand, "Águilas" (Spanish for "Eagles") is a city in Spain. So, y'know...

According to Wikipedia, Chicago had 23 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums, and sold over 40 million units, a few of which are in my record cabinet now. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_discography

Yeah I put them at first as well. But the question asked for THE best-selling band whose name is a city. Chicago sold many more records than Boston.

Shouldn't Boston be the most famous band named after a city?

Best-selling is not the same as most famous. Most famous is hard to determine but best-selling is based on numbers and numbers don't lie.

Why does it have to be "The" Biathlon? When do you ever put a sport with an article together? If you do that with any ball-sports, this would be misleading too (the football, the handball etc).

I managed Moore's law, but forgot widow's peak and felt a bit ripped off by New York City ahah.

I always feel ripped off by questions like the one answered 'Chicago' here, I know it's a general knowledge quiz and so the point is to be specific to catch people out, but that band was never big outside of the US AND was releasing songs a good 30+ years before I was born, literally impossible for it to have entered my pool of general knowledge :(

Agreed. I eventually got it after running through every animal I could think of that might plausibly have a tongue that we might eat, and then in the dying seconds, just typed "tongue" in exasperation.

But it certainly wasn't clear to me that that's what the question was asking.

Ahh, tacos de lengua! I brought them home for my three kids once. They commenced devouring them. One of the kids got down to just about the last few bites, and asked, "What kind of tacos are these, anyway?" I told them, and they all pushed their plates away. Sigh.
