Well no, because Thailand also borders Cambodia and Laos. And in any case the figure of 6 million is way off - Myanmar and Malaysia alone would surpass the population of Thailand by a lot more than that.
Everyone who studies math long enough discovers that everything is maths, and all maths is sets. Talking about sets and logic here makes the previous statement technically true.
Three of these countries only have one neighbour - South Korea only borders North Korea, UK only borders Ireland and Haiti only borders the Dominican Republic. While the UK has many times the population of Ireland and South Korea is twice as populous as it's northern counterpart, Haiti is only slightly more populated than the Dominican Republic.
Sweden and the USA only border two other countries. The US has twice the population of Canada + Mexico, while Sweden narrowly outnumbers Norway and Finland's combined populations.
Indonesia borders three other countries( Malaysia, East Timor and PNG) and outnumbers them five times over.
Nigeria borders four other countries( Benin, Niger, Chad and Cameroon) and outnumbers them about 3 to 1.
South Africa borders six other countries( Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.) and outnumbers them by about 5 million people.
The only reason I could see for Brazil not meeting the criteria is because it borders France (via French Guyana). Otherwise, Brazil definitely should be on the list
What is the picture of? It has to be a road in the US, but I can't place the mountain. best guess is somewhere in Alaska or Washington state given the heavy glaciation on the mountain there, but I can't think of any roads that look like that in either state. Looks kind of like the Icefields Parkway in Alberta.
Edit: definitely the Icefields Parkway, taken from just north of the Athabasca Glacier, that is definitely Mount Athabasca in the back there. Surprised it isn't a picture from a country on the list.
What's the source for this? Citypop has Saudi Arabia at 35.3 mil and Yemen at 31.9 mil (though the estimate for Yemen is two years older). Wikipedia has Yemen at 32.7 mil and Saudi Arabia at 32.2 mil--smaller, but definitely not enough smaller that Yemen would still beat it PLUS Oman.
I'm not trying to argue these sources are definitive; I just want to know what source you (and apparently the quiz owner) are using that says that Yemen has more people than Saudi Arabia + Oman, because by these two sources the answer is "No" and it's not particularly close.
Wouldn't it be better to use an official source and not the UN's guess? Yemen says it's 32 million, the UN says 40. Same for a lot of other countries. The US is off by 11 million.
No. We can't use the official source for every country separately. That's madness.
First of all, different countries use different methodologies. Is the entire population counted, or just citizens?
Secondly, many (or most) countries don't even conduct regular censuses. For example, the last census in Nigeria was in 2006. Do you think that Yemen, which is currently in the midst of a civil war, is doing an accurate census? C'mon.
Thirdly, the UN data IS based on official sources but corrects for the issues I mentioned above.
There are lots of problems with the UN data too. But it's by far the best source for comparisons between countries. That's why I built an entire dashboard based on it.
In 2023, Yemen's Ministry of Health estimated its population at 32.7 million. In 2024, the World Bank estimated the population at 40.5 million. Given the decade-long civil war, it's hard to believe either number is accurate. Saudi Arabia has a population of 35 million in 2024 according to the World Bank. Using World Bank numbers, its accurate to include Yemen but using Wikipedia (the 2023 number) its not.
Yemen having a full Oman more people than the KSA is crazy, given their obvious size difference. You do wonder how long that'll last with all the Indians the latter's bringing in... but maybe Yemen's birth rate is enough to keep pace, Idk

India population is 1.429 billion
All its neighbours combined:
Afghanistan population is 42 million
Pakistan population is 241 million
China population is 1.411 billion
Bhutan population is 1 million
Nepal population is 32 million
Myanmar population is 55 million
Bangladesh population is 173 million
So the population of every one of India's neighours combined is 1.955 billion.
Is India's population greater than that of every one of their neighbors combined?
NO

https://www.jetpunk.com/data/population/countries-by-population
It's based on the 2024 Edition of World Population Prospects by the UN.
Wow, neat! Asked and answered.
