Harder the the first quiz.

Amazed that Bloemfontein isn't one of the top 5 in South Africa.

Me too, it's always the first one I think of because of the unique name.

And the fact it's a capital

Its name is more unique than its capital status

Tough. I struggled with Mexico and Colombia, two countries we don't hear a great deal about in Britain.

Hard imagine to Cuidad something tripping off the tongue as quickly as Acapulco.

Ciudad means city. It's Juárez City.

All of Mexico came to me pretty easily, I think because I've lived in the Southwest U.S. my whole life. Juarez (which works without Ciudad btw) is well known as El Paso's neighbor across the Rio Grande and for its violence.

What embarrassed me was not coming up with two of the Swiss cities.

The US the only one where the capital doesn't feature.

That's because Washington DC is tiny, city-wise.

I thought Philadelphia or Boston would have made it for the USA. Cancun for Mexico. Xiamen for China. Bloemfontein for South Africa. Adelaide for Australia. Finally Santa Fe for Colombia

Fun fact: Cartagena (COL) was named after Cartagena (ESP), which used to be Carthago Nova, which was named after Carthago (TUN), which meant "New Town", which was a reference to Tyre (LBN).

Port Elizabeth is now called Gqeberha. I would not have got it either way but should probably work as a type in.

Strange to me that Bloemfontein is not on the list.. JetPunk is usually so keen on capitals!
+1
Level 67
Apr 19, 2024
probably because it's the hardest to spell and jetpunk is so lenient with type ins that jetpunkers don't bother learning how to spell the capitals
