If you're going to have Carthage instead of Tunis, you should accept other former names of cities, especially when it is relevant to the hint (Tenochtitlan for Mexico city, Stalingrad for Volgograd).

Lol no Amsterdam, the city of the first stock trade, the city that New York was first named after (new Amsterdam), the city that held the head office of the VOC, the biggest company ever existed. However you do include cities like Granada and Boston?

This definitely isn't a good list if its based on history. Its decent if its based on modern day influence.
