1. My overall strategy was to find the founding date of a country usually associated with the modern day counterpart (ex: Burundi, Poland, Fiji, Tonga, Ethiopia, Hungary, etc.). I went with a different approach with China, as it is today usually associated with mainly the modern-day state.
2. For others, I would try to see if there was a generally unbroken and long line of history or rulers leading from one to another with relatively few breaks or colonizers (about 2 was my max), ex: Croatia existed as a kingdom, and after mainly stayed in unions for several centuries, and was only broken up by only Yugoslavia mostly. Others as well as Oman, Brunei, Iran, Thailand, and the Maldives, and more followed a similar pattern.
3. A few were determined by when a region was united (ex: Bhutan, Japan).
Let me know of anything wrong or arguments in the comments. This quiz is not perfect and I would love any feedback.
