These are almost all great quizzes, but why cram them in to such oppressive time restrictions? Recalling all 3100+ U.S. counties (and equivalents) is hard enough, but trying to do it under the gun is just absurd. What’s the purpose of these resources? To help us train our minds, or to shove us into this silly competition?
Get rid of the hourglass. Make them into timed tests if you insist on competition, but let them track how long we take, not how long we have left. Let us compete against ourselves, not against an arbitrary, pointless countdown!
Michigan is a perfect example. Six minutes to type out all those unique names - at least on a virtual (ipad) keyboard - is nowhere near enough time. Trying remembering the spelling for Presque Isle, Mackinac, Leelenau, Lenawee, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, etc, it’s frustrating.
Today I learned that Monroe and Wayne counties share borders in Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. They also touch at a single point in Iowa. (I live in the New York Monroe)
