the closest body of water to Abkhazia and Transnistria is the black sea, and if you've never seen a map, the black sea is a little bit far from oceania if you ask me
Or someone knocks on their door, or the phone rings, or the cat jumps on the keyboard, or their baby wakes up crying, or they have a sudden stomach pain, or they spill coffee on their computer, or their boss walks in, or there's a power failure, or their dog has an accident on the carpet, or their spouse gives them "the twinkle eye" look and they realize they have something better to do...
Or are scatterbrained and forgot what they were doing. (it only takes one second to look up ;) hard to forget something while you are doing it, but that split second you attention is somewhere else, can be all it takes :) )
Loud noise, someone asking something, something said on tv/radio. Or drifting away when you think so hard you close your eyes :P Like creature that lives in the ocean with a unicron like tusk, ahh unicorns... could they be able to swim? and would they doggypaddle? ow I ve seen a dog with a fake horn dressed as a unicorn once. Etc :)
I am not that ad(h)d but even I can imagine that, so Imagine what could happen with people that dó have trouble focussing.
Micronesia is officially Federated States of Micronesia. You also forgot about Tahiti and French Polynesia.(They are the same country just so you know.)
...You do know that Indonesia is transcontinental, right? The continental boundary doesn't go straight through the island, the entire island of New Guinea is in Oceania.
oh whatever i can see this never ending.... soon it'll be just type in the first 2 letters of a country's name and that'd be fine... we've got to hold the line somewhere yuh
Tell that to the USA, UK, UAE, PNG, and CAR. I have no problem adding NZ or FSM to that list. It's not as though we'd be confusing them with something else.
Can't believe I forgot Fiji. My daughter was supposed to spend a week there years ago on her way to study in Australia, but they had a coup and officials wouldn't let the tourists leave the airport. She was mad, I was thankful.
The main point of General Knowledge quizzes is to test your knowledge, not your typing ability. There are plenty of typing tests if you want a typing challenge. Try challenging your knowledge with other quizzes that you may not be so familiar with.
Well. I wrote "Papua New Guinea" for the longest time and was always annoyed why simply "Papua" isn't accepted. Until I found out I can use "PNG" instead and my life was changed forever. :-D
I believe Kiribus is either poor spelling or not English (although phonetically correct). Federated States of Micronesia, with a D at the end of Federated, however, I'm with you on.
While I'm all in favour of anti-officiousness with 'official names' and that (Peoples' Republic of China), it is a JetPunk tradition to comment in anger about the omission of such tediosities and I feel I am obliged to complain over the branding of the Federated States of Micronesia as merely the unassuming 'Micronesia'
You do not know how long it took me to memorize all of these. Before JetPunk, I didn't even know half of these countries existed. The 100% I got feels better than the 10% I used to get. Now off to the Caribbean Islands.
I enjoy the quizzes but I really come here for the comments...
Great stuff everyone! Keep up the good work!
And since we're here anyway: Shouldn't French Polynesia be included? Or Guam? Shouldn't "Federated States of Micronesia" be accepted? Should we not introduce NZ as an acceptable abbreviation for New Zealand? What about Palestine (just, in general)?
I wondered why I couldn't get 'Federated States of Micronesia' to work, then I found it is because it had been mislabelled as 'Micronesia'. This is as bad as mislabelling the United States of America as 'America' or mislabelling South Africa as 'Africa'. The Federated States of Micronesia is not the only country in Micronesia, and it is not even the biggest.
Anybody that has been on the site for more than 2 months? (assuming they don't do exclusively sports quizzes or something).
I have always typed new guinea though, and dont think that will change, I wont ever use roc and the other east asian ones either. Takes me longer to think of the correct abreviation than to write the word. (I do use UAE UK and USA ow and CAR)
For all Earthlings out there wondering what borders follow this quiz. This quiz follows what JetPunk considers being the borders of continents. In Oceania, it does not follow the Weber Line, nor the Wallace Line, neither the Lydekker Line, that means that Papua New Guinea is Oceanic but Indonesia and Timor-Leste are not. France, the US, the UK and Japan are not transcontinental so they are not Oceanic. And, of course, no territory is considered a country.
I thought this was all non-landlocked countries until I saw Swaziland. And it is called Eswatini now, so... this is just either a really bad suggestion or a really bad joke...
But there are no French overseas departments in Oceania (New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna and French Polynesia are overseas territories, which do not form part of France). Even if there were (like in North and South America and Africa) I would consider France solely a European country, because most of its territory and population are located there.
I was just wondering, what is everyone's fastest time on this quiz? (My personal record is 12 seconds). I am just curious what the time record for this quiz is.
Here is my dumb mnemonic for remembering the small island nations of Oceania. With mnemonics, absurdity can be helpful. "Pals might make noise kicking Tupperware saucepans to free valuable space." Yes saucepans are not made of Tupperware; that is part of the absurdity. Anyway, I've had no trouble remembering these since I made that one up a while back!

Tahiti is not a country
French polynesia literally has french in it's name.

Best case scenario it's Rick Astley.
Worst case scenario it's you doing this in 15 seconds.
