I think it's because most people just use "Vatican", but "Vatican City" is more accurate.

IMO Vatican is a valid short name for a country, just like in all other cases, e.g. Italian Republic

It isnt. There is a reason why in all the answer sheets it is shown as vatican city and Italy. Those are the common names. Vatican is accepted on this site as a courtesy. I guess because in speed quizes it takes too much time to type, just like saint nevis and kitts, or marshall islands.

ps the is a difference in "The Vatican" and the country vatican city. Maybe that why you have vatican in your head? The vatican is in vatican city.

Just because it's valid short-hand doesn't mean it should be excluded. Czech Republic clearly belongs on Countries that End in 'C', but Czechia is officially recognized as short-hand.

Città del Vaticano E' il nome dello Stato, "Vaticano" è come lo chiamano (erroneamente) tutti per semplificare.

I fell far more aggrieved that 16% of South American countries end in y. Yet you have lowly Africa continuing to be disrespected and not getting a single crumb. Come on mythical being that names and determines the spelling of countries you can do better than that. If you believe in equality then gosh darn it a good 9 or 10 need to be immediately renamed to rectify this egregious bias.

But oddly, the European countries only end in Y when using their English names...

Italia, Norge, Deutschland, Magyarország, Türkiye, Città del Vaticano

Perhaps we can reintroduce Araby, and Malagasy, to make it less Euro-Centric?

None of them ends In Y either in my language. But I cant think of any that does, but that doesnt say much, cause on this quiz I blanked I could not think of more than hungary uruguay and paraguay (and apparently last time norway aswell)

Frustrating when that happens, although I do know that this site makes an effort to be fair to everyone in this sort of situation. But the 12 Jan 2015 date-stamp here may not have been the date it was written. It was the date it was last updated, and an update always happens the day it is featured because a photo gets added.
