World Chess Champions

Since 1886, there have been 16 officially recognized -- undisputed --world chess champions. How many can you name?
Also note that from 1993-2006 the championship was in dispute because of a split in the governing chess organization. Disputed champions are not listed.

It demands full names (not just last names) when repeating Botvinnik and Alekhine.

Why? This is deeply silly. I am aware of no other quiz on Jetpunk which works this way, and it destroys the purpose of the quiz as a test of knowledge.

Great quiz, but perhaps you could update it to reflect the current World Champion, Magnus Carlsen. Also, I'm glad you ignored the "FIDE champions" of the period 1994--2006.

You're forgetting Magnus Carlsen.

Already noted, but it's unacceptable that you have to type the full name to get Alekhine's second reign and Botvinnik's second and third. Those shouldn't be scored separately (15 champions, but the quiz is out of 18) unless you convert the quiz to highlighted answers.

Also, Carlsen.

Quite right Samguy. The quizsetter has ruined a potentially excellent quiz by introducing a preposterous rule.

During both of Alekhine's reigns, he was French so you should change his Federation.

He was Russian who just lived in France

I believe Steinitz, eventhouh born in Prague should be considered austrian, as he moved to Vienna. Furthermore, Prague was at the time austrian. E.g. you consider Botvinnik UdSSR and Kramnik Russia. The same should count for Kramnik

Good quiz now above problems fixed. But why can't I give it a rating?

Great quiz. I forgot about Smyslov, shame on me. I'd love to see some 'unofficial' world champions too, like Morphy, Philidor and Staunton, but of course it'll be a bit tricky because there's no clear way of deciding who should be included.
