In French domestic football, clubs competed for four major annual honours until the Coupe de la Ligue (the 'League Cup') was abolished in at the end of the 2020 season so as to lighten the domestic football schedule. Three other major domestic honours continue into the present: the Ligue 1 championship, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions (known previously as the Challenge des Champions).
