o contraire, rittings. The quiz is based off of revenue, something I should have made more clear. And google and microsoft though they have good profit margins, they do not take in ample revenue.
This is an excellent quiz!! Although, as some people have alluded to already, many of these entities are known more colloquially by their abbreviations or shortened names:
-SGCC for State Grid
-PDVSA for Petróleos de Venezuela
-NIOC for National Iranian Oil Company
-Assicurazioni Generali is generally (pun somewhat intended:-P) referred to as Generali.
Furthermore, CNPC should replace, or at least be accepted for PetroChina, as CNPC is it's parent company. Also, Exor (which owns Fiat) made what would amount to about 110-115 billion USD (that's a rough estimation on the exchange rate), so I'd imagine they might need to be added. Again, this is a great quiz!
Ever seen anyone playing a Apple X-Box? (I-Box? lol)
Or any businesses using Apple stuff? I am surprised also that Microsoft wouldn't be larger. They sell countless pcs to businesses, schools, and homes, not to mention the extra first party applications which are extra money (e.g. MS Office). Stunning that there are enough iphones to beat that! Also I'm sure app store / iTunes makes a huge profit.
Apple made more than twice as much revenue ($182 Billion) as Microsoft ($87 Billion) for the year ending in 2014. Microsoft doesn't fit the criteria anyway as the quiz is looking for companies that made more than $100 Billion.
Solomon... I don't believe Microsoft sells ANY PCs to business - or anyone else, for that matter (excluding gaming consoles). They just sell the software that runs all that hardware. Both cost and profit on software is generally lower than for hardware - Apple's model is to sell the hell out of both - which makes their revenue huge.
Also tried China State Grid I think.. and Chinese Petroleum etc. Knew it was something like that. I tried to be more forgiving when I put several of the same answers on my world's largest employers quiz.
I know these things change constantly, but I'm sure I heard just in the last few weeks that the most valuable company in the world right now is Alphabet, who own Google. Is this list based on different criteria?
Interesting how different this (revenue-based) list is to the Forbes Global 2000 for 2016, which is topped by ICBC (which comes in 33 on what I believe to be the source). Indeed the most notable difference between this list and the Forbes list is the relative lack of banks.
