At a 1907 conference Britain made Newfoundland and New Zealand dominions and worked on various settlements that would unite the individual colonies of modern South Africa. Ireland and India got screwed, causing serious domestic strife over the draft in Ireland during WW1.
every life/death matters ANYWHERE. But there ís quite a difference of impact for the society/country. The military deaths for the us in ww2 would amount to 0,3% of the population. Whereas for serbia it was 10%(though I ve read more). If you go by all deaths that would go towards 30% Imagine losing a quarter to a third of your population. That is unfathomable.
At the end of the war it was rewarded with a mandate over South West Africa (Namibia), which it treated as an integral part of South Africa until 1990.
Austira-Hungary attacked Serbia and that is how the World War I started.
By the way, Serbia gave a faighting lesson to them in the first few battles.
But how in God's name did so many people miss Ottoman Empire? I was always taught they were one of the three main combatants on the Central Powers side. It was in fact this war that ended the Ottoman Empire.
At the start I thought "I'll go with the bigger ones first", at the end I was sure I had it already in, so I didn't think of it...
