During the Sengoku, or Warring States, period, Japan was divided into many clans vying for supremacy. Can you name the most powerful clans of this period?
Naming customs in Japan put the family/clan name first, so many famous historical figures from Japan are known by their last, personal name. Thus, personal names are accepted for prominent family heads.
Since this quiz is pretty difficult and since I'm not an expert on Feudal Japan, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make type-ins better, please tell me.
I'm not an expert on Japanese history either, but I used to play a game called "Pokemon Conquest." The idea was basically a bunch of famous Japanese warlords (like Oda Nobunaga, Tokugawa Ieyasu, etc.) had armies of Pokemon instead of samurai and would battle each other to control the region. I also watched a short video series on YouTube about the Sengoku period once. Even then, there was a lot I had never heard of when I researched this quiz. I'm guessing only a hardcore Japanese history buff will be able to ace it :) but for everyone else it's a good learning opportunity about an interesting period in history!
Though I'm embarrassed to have only gotten one, the idea is brilliant as the map is amazing, and I'm sure natives would love to learn about Japan during the "Middle Ages". Why quotes? The term "Middle Ages" or "Dark Ages" mostly refers to Europe's status during the time period in which Europeans made little advancements. You can look at many other continents and find nations like China, for example, who have a rich history of advancements during the period. I don't know if you would refer to Japan's greatest Samurai period as "dark" or not, but I do know that it was a pleasure to nominate this quiz.
Lol, it's fine if you just got one. Like I said, this is a pretty obscure topic, and I'm not expecting a lot of people to do well. The map is nice, but it really wasn't hard to make--all I really did was download it from Wikipedia, then change some labels/colors. The hardest part of making this quiz was actually managing type-ins. Still, thanks for the nom! :)
As for the "Middle Ages" thing, I agree that it's a misnomer. Many places, especially in Asia, still advanced a lot during this period, and Japan is no exception. And when Ieyasu (from the Tokugawa clan you saw above) finished uniting Japan in the early 1600s, it led to a long, peaceful era of prosperity for the islands. Pretty cool, huh?
