Abel Tasman was a Dutch explorer who explored and mapped out much of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Can you name all the countries he visited along the way?
Only including voyages he personally commanded
Some of this is speculative and Tasman may not have landed in all these places. See comments for details.
Hint: His starting location/base of operations was in a country famous historically under Dutch rule
1. Tasman actually made several trips before his "first" voyage to East Asia, including places like Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. Unfortunately, I had trouble finding any information about exactly when he went to these places or where he landed, so I kept them off.
2. We don't actually know much about his second voyage, because there's aren't any journals or logs from these. The only source we have is a map, and even then the sourcing of that is uncertain. Thus, even though I show him landing in the Cape York Peninsula for convenience, I'm not actually sure where (or if) he actually landed in Australia.
Even with these limitations, I tried my best to recreate his travels, and I feel like it is reasonably accurate.
Thanks! I realized it has been a while since I added to the series, so I decided to do so :) I'm still pretty busy so it probably won't be until April or May at least, but I do have a few more ideas before I wrap up this series!
Crap, I just realized I made a mistake with the map where I put Tonga as being at 175 degrees West instead of 175 degrees East. I'm not great with Pacific islands, so I didn't notice :P Nice catch though! I've corrected it.
Yes, I promise I will do Zheng He sometime, but I can't promise when I'll do it. I'm busy with school and studying, and a quiz like that would require a lot of research. In the meantime, can I please ask you to stop repeatedly asking me this? It's kinda annoying. I'll let you know when my Zheng He quiz is done, but for now please be patient.
