One thing worth mentioning is that Drake might not have gone to the Palau, but the Yap Islands of Micronesia instead. The places are ethnologically similar and geographically close enough that it's feasible that Drake went to either based on his descriptions. I chose Palau because the evidence seems to favor it slightly, but there's also a lot of evidence that suggests Micronesia.
There are other places that are up for debate: some say he went further north than California, up to Oregon, and some say he visited Cape Horn, several hundred kilometers south of Tierra del Fuego. There isn't strong evidence in favor of either though. The only place where scholars seem to seriously disagree are Palau vs. Micronesia.
Cool quiz! Had to do it twice though, as the first time I messed up and thought I had to guess where he goes next, not remembering that the end of the line is what is being asked...!
Yeah sorry. I never got around to updating this with the new animations. I'll try to get around to this as soon as possible--I could probably do it today or tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me!
it seems that Drake went on some long voyages without touching land, compared to the other explorers in the series - a thing I didn't know, but now I do.
Another splendid quiz Mr Watson. A most enjoyable series.
Thanks so much EcceHomo! I saw you left comments on all of my comments, and while I don't have time to reply to all of them right now, it always makes me happy to see it when people get a lot out of my quizzes (especially this series!).
