I think many of the ones with "y" tripped me up.

Yemen and Rwanda also have a "y" or "w" acting as a vowel. But in any case, I'd exclude all those as they seem to go against the purpose of the test, which is to have countries with a single vowel.

those are both consonants. W is never a vowel, lol

In Welsh, W is often a vowel.

The w in Rwanda is a u acting as a consonant haha... the y in Yemen is also a consonant here because it’s a punctuated sound. It’s the same as the y in “you” or “yell” - the principal vowel in both syllables of “Yemen” is e, and the y is not participating in a diphthong so it is decidedly not a vowel.

About the countries with y in general: you’re right that some people would omit countries with vowel y’s from this quiz, but then you’d get people complaining that “kyrgyzstan wasnt in the quiz but it only has an a and no other vowels why isn’t it in the quiz” so greying out such countries is the middle ground here.

Come to think of it, it would be very cool if QM added a feature that allowed certain answers in a quiz to be bonus points that didn’t subtract from your score if you got it wrong...

I wonder if Myanmar needs a grey highlight too? Isn't the "y" being used as a vowel in this case?

Myanmar only contains a y acting like a vowel if you pronounce it “Mai-yan-mar,” which I have heard before, but considering that most people don’t say this and often the y is omitted entirely from speech it’s safe to say that the y is not acting like a vowel here
