Liberia was colonized by private companies in the USA who wanted to return former slaves to Africa, so you can't say "none" just because no European country ever set foot in it. Ethiopia, however, was never colonized, just occupied.
Liberia was colonized by African American men and women who decided to go back to Africa because of the dangers that were in America. I am giving "none" as an answer because they weren't a country but a group of emigrants who wanted to go back to Liberia. Ultimately the nation Liberia was formerly recognized by the US several years later, therefore making it -the first African country not colonized-. You can argue that it was colonized by those people, but that would be the same as saying that ISIS is and official country in the Middle East. Those people weren't like ISIS, of course, but the sought to make a country, yet they weren't one.
A lot of these are inexact or not really comparable... "None" as an answer for Liberia is not great... I tried "American Colonization Society." Also, I recommend this be a yellow-box quiz.
I get where you’re coming from with Liberia being none, but it’s a bit of a stretch to me to claim that a country colonized by a people who were originally from America with support from both private organizations and the American government is not colonized by America. At the very least, it’s more than unclear enough so that it just shouldn’t be on the quiz, and we can avoid the issue altogether
They were a part of those countries. Might as well call Italy a coloniser of Sicily.
- PNG was colonized by both Germany and Australia in different areas
- Togoland was colonized by Germany, the UK, and France
- the Philippines was initially colonized by Spain before the US even set foot there
- South Africa was a British crown colony, while the Dutch administration was simply the "Cape Colony"
- Somalia was jointly administered by the British and Italians
- Bangladesh and Panama were not colonies as much as they were parts of their former rulers
- Liberia was effectively an American colony. I think "no one" should be accepted as a type-in
Great quiz though!
