Also, I had no idea Chagall was from Belarus. Thought he was from France or so...

Marc Chagall was born Moishe Shagal in present day Belarus, formerly the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which was part of the Russian Empire, in 1887; long before the advent of the Soviet Union in 1922.
