I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
I'm just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

2:15 left. Took me forever to figure out that it was "castles" not "castle".

I would just like to say that the last line of the first chorus is incorrect, it says on here its "once you go" yet on every other lyrics site for this song its "Once you'd go". So could you please change this so its correct. Thank you.

I am not sure which lyric sites you are referring to. Several sites have the line just as it is on the quiz as, "once you go."

Oh, so it's not Roman Catholic choirs... That always confused me for some reason.

Still some pretty strong association with the Church, though. I thought the same as you! But it could also make sense in terms of the actual Roman Empire, who started as a Republic and then transitioned to dictatorship and then Empire, but then people always realize hereditary or single-person based ruling is not always in the best interest of the people. haha

I thought this was the lyrics to "Livin' La Vida Loca".

Leaving disappointed.

Dealthy Bro I did it for the whole song XD

People at the top.

HOW DOES IT MAKE SENSE FOR THE LYRICS TO SAY "Once you'd gone there was never' THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE AT ALL. So I agree with people who think it is once you go like in the real song!
