Fuchsia the color comes from fuchsia the flower, which comes from Fuchs the botanist, which comes from Fuchs, the German word for "fox". Just an interesting little history, I thought.
I've checked the OED, Collins, American Heritage, and a half dozen other respected dictionaries, and none of them list "Fuschia" as an alternate spelling of the color.
I know taupe because I draw a lot with colored pencils and collect as many brands as possible to give me varying shades. One is taupe. Hadn't heard of puce and ecru, though.
Great quiz! I gave up a bit early but the only ones I haven't heard of were russet & verdigris. I'm curious how woman do over men on this one though hahahaha
I only knew of this colour because of that episode.. He repeats it so often to the cop, that anytime I now see the word or hear it, I picture that scene and hear him repeating it.
Thought I was typing in 'Green', then noticed instead I typed in 'Greece'... Probably because I had taken "Countries of the World", "Countries of the World with an Empty Map", and "Every Country Shape" right before this. And another thing: I thought this was a colors quiz, not an elements quiz! What's Cobalt doing here?
I didn't know lots of these. Perhaps it would've been better to use more common colours (like yellow or violet) and not 'ecru', which no-one has heard of.
PHEWISHIA
And not even going for the full ROY G BIV? That man was a hero! HE DIED FOR YOUR COLORFUL SINS!
In the US, we say/spell it as 'color'
(I use 'colour,' however)
Otherwise, great quiz. It was a good challenge.
One of the few I missed: Jade.
