Weird how there are three people that cant distinguish v's from z's is that a regional thing? For one person it is odd, but for three, what are the odds... that doesnt seem like a coincidence (it is not like they sound alike. Or that it is 3 in a million)
I think trimming two minutes off the quiz would work; I spent almost a minute thinking "Former UK colony in central america...what is it...I know it's the other B answer for the Americas" and still ended with 3:31 left
I didn't like the name change, and I was hoping it wouldn't stick. Keep in mind that Eswatini is one of the least free democratic countries on Earth. In fact, it is one of the few remaining absolute monarchies. So I really don't care if the king changes the name. But if people use the new name (and it seems like they are) then it gains legitimacy. This is the same reason I switched from Burma to Myanmar a couple years back.
By the way, official UN names are often really silly. Witness "Islamic Republic of Iran", "Plurinational State of Bolivia", or "Viet Nam". It makes dealing with UN data a pain in the butt sometimes.
It's not very interesting. It's because Jetpunk is using a similar standard as Wikipedia (e.g. eSwatini and Ivory Coast) of "what something is called" rather than "what some authority designates" as the name of something. This is a reasonable standard since the name of a country is often all over the map and quite verbose. It's not the only reasonable standard, of course, so you'll find a difference between different atlases on what to name countries; but that's them and this is this.
Wikipedia isn't a great authority for decisionmaking or scholarship but it's a great standard for something as (un)important as a trivia quiz. Tracking Wikipedia generally (though not necessarily slavishly) is a good strategy on these kinds of things.
I'll add that the reason eSwatini was picked up in actual usage more easily is that people just rarely talk about Swaziland very much in English, and when they do, it's usually from official news sources which are a lot more likely to adopt an official change stemming from government dictate. There was very little "old usage" to overwrite.
I could NOT think of venezuela.. like it had vanished from existence, I must ve gone through all of the americas like 8-12 times... could not find what was missing :/
I like that in a quiz about countries with Z, it still accepts Kyrgyzstan spelled as Kirgistan, which notoriously does have a Z. That's very generous of you, Quismaster, and I thank you for it!
Good quiz, gets you thinking. As for the Azerbaijan debate, would be interesting to hear from some Azeris to find out if they feel Asian or European. I'd imagine Asian, but who knows.
Taking this quiz made me realize just how many countries have a V in it! I could only keep coming up with V countries like Vatican, st vincent, bolivia, moldova, etc.
I swear everyone is just arguing about Azerbaijan and Europe, instead of focusing on the actual main topic of the quiz itself, COUNTRIES THAT HAVE Z IN THEM
Fun fact even though Kazakhstan is classified to be in Asia the bit that looks like a head is actually in europe.here’s another fun fact the three country’s of Georgia Azerbaijan and Armenia are actually in Asia even though they were part of the Soviet Union. after breakaway from the Soviet Union the country’s of Armenia Azerbaijan and Georgia were classified in Asia
TIL I've been spelling Kyrgyzstan wrong all this time. This site is the only place I ever have cause to write it out and spelling it without the z is always an acceptable answer here so I never realised I was making a mistake.
Got them all in 2:05 although I couldn't remember one of them for ages... I have forgotten which one it was again now, one of those in Europe. Oh yeah Czechia!
were to just re-map the world and put "Europe" where it rightfully belongs, in Asia? (or make Asia part of Europe; I don't care which,
as it puts an end to these interminable arguments).

America is not a continent.
"Americas" is a collective term for North and South America.
(or Switziland?)
Here it is spelled with an s instead of z
Can I translate this quiz?
Loved it!
