Considering the fact that Sheik has only ever appeared in one main series Zelda game, and the fact that her role in that game was simply a disguise for another character, and the fact that she utilized very few unique abilities of her own, AND the fact that even among the few unique abilities she does have, she uses arguably none of them in Smash, her inclusion onto the roster at all is baffling. Easily the most outlandish and bizarre non-joke character ever introduced (aside from Dr. Mario and the choice to make Ganondorf a Falcon clone). I would've easily sacrificed Sheik in her entirety to give Ganon his own moveset. She's cool in Hyrule Warriors at least.
I think it’s weird that Sheik was developed for Melee straight from the beginning but Ganondorf was a last-minute clone addition. I feel like one of these is more important than the other…
