Depending on how you define the "leader" of Poland, I suppose that position could be:
• The Chairman of the Council of State, which in 1980 was held by Henryk Jabłoński (Jaruzelski succeeded him in 1985);
• The First Secretary of the PZPR, which in 1980 was either Edward Gierek or Stanisław Kania (with Jaruzelski succeeding to the position in 1981); or
• The Prime Minister of the Polish People's Republic, which in 1980 was held by Piotr Jaroszewicz, Edward Babiuch, and Józef Pińkowski (Jaruzelski again succeeded to the position in 1981).
...unless I'm missing something?
