Probably you should add Cyprus, because the northern part of the island is turkish, or under turkish dominion. But it was fun!

Cyprus has a Greek part and a Turkish part yes, but that's still the country Cyprus.

I would say there's a strong argument for adding Cyprus. Or at least doing the standard JetPunk thing and adding it as an already entered answer

Just because there are Somalis in Kenya doesn't mean that Somalia borders Uganda.
+3
Level 69

You shouldn't. First, it's an illegal occupation, that only Turkey itself has officially recognised. Second, even Turkey doesn't claim it borders Cyprus, as it pretends that "Northern Cyprus" is a sovereign state.

Plattitude is right. The Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan is southwest of Armenia. It has a tiny border with Turkey at the Aras River.

well Cyprus does border Northern Cyprus which is basically an extension of Turkey. Convenient place for them to keep most of their casinos and brothels.

But Northern Cyprus declared independence. It's not like it became a province of Turkey.
+5
Level 83
Dec 4, 2016
Quizzes would become awfully complicated if we included all cases like this. Of course de facto Northern Cyprus is very closely linked to Turkey, but nobody recognizes it as such, not even themselves. The same with Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno Karabakh, but unlike Crimea for example.

Gamer: that's not really what happened, though. In the 1970s Greek partisans attempted to annex Cyprus to Greece. In response, Turkey invaded Northern Cyprus and expelled Greeks from that part of the island. Currently, Turkey is the *only* country in the world that recognizes Northern Cyprus. The "country" is entirely dependent on Turkey for its economy and military and is essentially a puppet satellite state of Turkey. The United Nations considers Northern Cyprus to be a part of the Republic of Cyprus under Turkish occupation.
+1
Level 39
Jun 14, 2021
@kalbahamut, you are giving wrong and false information. Yes, Northern Cyprus is economically (almost) dependent to Turkey, but it isn’t a province, dependency etc. of Turkey. Turkey recognises Northern Cyprus as a country, not a dependency. And also UN doesn’t consider Northern Cyprus as a part of Turkey. And Northern Cyprus is not under the occupation of Turkey. Even some Northern Cypriots hate Turkey. UN considers Northern Cyprus as an unrecognised state, part of Republic of Cyprus.

(Extra information: There is a United Nations Buffer Zone between “two Cyprus”.)

Northern Cyprus IS occupied by Turkey because the latter has troops stationed there since 1974.

I think I responded to this comment already... but looks like my response was deleted? sigh. Not that surprising. But, whatever, I forget what I pulled up to support my case but, no, I'm not giving wrong or false information. I never said TRNC was a province of Turkey. I said what I said. Which is accurate. I remember doing some research into TRNC politics and citing some interesting details about various referendums and such... it wasn't inflammatory... certainly did not break the rules of the site... the stuff I post that gets deleted literally for no reason on here is so annoying. That I post a lot of comments is not a good excuse either.

Sonko, I wonder what Kalbahamut's problem is with you. In almost every quiz that you have created he is criticising you and the quiz. Vreselijk kinderachtig als je het mij vraagt.
+3

What do you mean "every quiz"? Kal has commented on 4 quizzes out of 21 Sonko has created. That's 19% of all his quizzes, so no Kalbahamut hasn't commented on 'almost all of Sonko's quizzes'. Unless commenting on 4 quizzes equals 'almost all of Sonko's quizzes', which then seems quite ridiculous.

Sonko and Jordaan. I agree with Gamer 1162, Kalbahamut frequently comments and comments... and comments. But that is NOT the case in this instance. As much as I often disagree with him, it is unfair to attribute to him something which he has not done. Also, it is impolite

to have an exchange in a language other than that of the quiz. (Dutch is one of the languages I speak, so I understood your exchange with each other).

@sonko don't get offended, this is not critisism towards you, but to the Quizmaster

what i want to say is, that i cannot fully understand how so many boring quizzes can be featured, where you only need to know the locations of huge countries on the world map, yet great quizzes, I'm not saying mine are so brill, but there are definitely some that are more engaging than well quizzes like this one or basically all of Jerry928's quizzes, which are simply the closest countries to every damn country on the planet

Fair point, I totally get what you're saying. There's definitely more engaging quizzes than this one.

I do think that most people here tend to prefer simple and country related quizes. The Quizmaster simply features what the masses want.

Even though they have had a lot of complicated relations historically and practice different religions, Turks and Greeks seem to have a lot in common culturally (personally, it seems similar to the relationship between India and Pakistan). I also read a comment from Kalbahamut on another quiz that Turks, Greeks, and Slavs have all intermarried for generations, leading to genetic similarities in the region as well.

Northern Cyprus is not recognised, therefore it is not considered a neighbouring country.

Theres a ATM in that small Turkish area bordering Azerbaijan with a one star review made two days ago:

Beğenmedim. Yeri bi kere iyi değil. Daha doğuda yapacak yer bulamadınız mı. İnsan biraz daha batıya yapar.

Google Translate says the person is complaining about the location
