Can you name a country that has the right amount of letters in its name for each possible name length?

This quiz has been updated due to the feedback of the "spaces count as characters" situation. While I still think spaces being counted made sense as they added to the visible length of the name, it seems to be an unpopular opinion. As such, spaces no longer count and only letters (plus the one hyphen) count!

Modifying all the type-ins was quite annoying, admittedly, so if anything got messed up please let me know! I went through it multiple times but I may have missed something.

I love this quiz but the numbers are a bit off once you get to 10 letters.

I've just checked every single country name past 10 letters again and each worked (using a character counter on Google docs). Are you sure you're following the caveats correctly? Spaces DO count as characters in this scenario, making Costa Rica and Bangladesh equal in character length at 10.

i think spaces shouldn’t count as characters. ask anyone and they will say guinea bissau has six more characters than guinea - we’re just not accustomed to counting the spaces. loved everything else about the quiz, but change it from characters to letters and i reckon you’ll earn a few more nominations

It's Guinea-Bissau, with a hyphen, not a space.

Ask anyone? If you ask someone on the street about Guinea and Guinea-Bissau they will call the police.

Spaces should not count - that's ridiculous.

I don't think it's "ridiculous", I was giving more value to the visible size of the name, such as the stacked names below:

Papua New Guinea

Marshall Islands

Despite having one less non-space character, Papua New Guinea seems much longer, so I figured that including spaces would even out this oddity.

Despite this, it seems like including spaces was quite unpopular so I have changed the quiz. Check out the stickied comment and see if it feels better! Thank you for commenting :)

Maybe better to say "characters" or "orthographic symbols" instead of "letters"? Guinea-Bissau is thirteen characters, twelve letters.

Unfortunately, "characters" could also include spaces. It's a debate I had with myself but I decided to go with "Letters" because it covers all but one exception. "Orthographic symbols" is quite the mouthful that isn't quite understandable by everyone. I thought I included a note about the hyphen in the directions, but it appears I haven't. I'll be adding that now!

I really like the idea, but some of them maybe want to be type-ins - there's no particular reason why it should be United States and not United States of America, or Bosnia and Herzegovina rather than Bosnia-Herzegovina. But ultimately it's only a quiz, and it was fun, thank you very much!

There is a reason - the names in the quiz are the ones used across JetPunk. Specifically, I copied all the country names from the well known "Countries of the World" quiz, of which practically every country oriented quiz uses. That way, there is a standardized way of deciding the country name that is well known by JetPunk. Thank you for the comment though!
