All Modern-Day Countries Ever Controlled by Prussia
With the help of a map, can you guess all modern day countries that were at one point under Prussian rule between 1525 (foundation of the Duchy of Prussia) up to 1867 (formation of the North German Confederation)?
Click on the map to zoom in.
Includes colonies controlled during the time of the personal union between Brandenburg and Prussia
Not including Whydah and the short-lived occupation of Tortola.
The map shows all modern day countries controlled by prussia between 1525 and 1867. I believe Prussia only got colonies after the Conference of Berlin in 1884, so countries like Namibia and Prussia's various holdings in the Pacific aren't applicable.
I guess I'm just not familiar enough with fragments of coastlines to have known what in the world those smaller boxes represented. I figured we were no longer looking at Europe, but that's about all I could discern.
Yeah, it's pretty difficult. The colonies were rather small so depicting them properly would've proven rather difficult unless if I'd rework the entire map.
I was also able to guess the USA because I didn't recognize it as any country, so I assumed it was a territory. Whenever there is a territory in a quiz, just type UK, France, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark and USA. It works almost all of the time. A few other countries also have territories but they rarely show up on Jetpunk quizzes.
Cool quiz! I never knew that Prussia controlled land in Mauritania and Ghana. They may have just been small trading post, but that's still pretty cool!
The three coastlines are very very hard to get. Is there no way you can expand the pictures or give some sort of hint as to where they are. At the minute it is pretty much pot luck.
Honestly, I disagree that they should change it, this quiz is supposed to test whether or not you know which countries were controlled by Prussia, but I feel like one of the main issues I have with jetpunk is that most quizzes simply come down to "can you name the countries that are shown in the map?" Of course, if the map was a bit more clear I could guess those as well, but I could guess any option from a map regardless of whether I actually know the answers or not.
The map is not showing the main island of Puerto Rico or St. Croix; it's showing Vieques, Culebra, & St. Thomas/St. John (& St. Thomas & St. John appear to be one island on the map, but they are not). https://www.google.com/maps/place/U.S.+Virgin+Islands/@18.065968,-65.3005315,10z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8c051065f2daacb9:0xf91d891d1bc51c05!8m2!3d18.335765!4d-64.896335
They're not shown because Prussia never controlled more than the two different islands shown on the map. The other islands are completely irrelevant to this quiz. The reason why they're listed as "Puerto Rico / Virgin Islands" is because those are part of those specific "unincorporated territories" of the United States.
I didn't get the African or Caribbean ones, so I didn't get 5/5 on my first go. I demand the quiz be changed and my account be credited 1000 bonus points as compensation for this injustice.
Seriously though, great quiz! Bit of geography, bit of history, and provokes extra investigation 5*
For the record, the yellow island on the left is Vieques (formerly "Crab Island," German "Krabbeninsel"), one of the so-called Spanish Virgin Islands, politically part of Puerto Rico. The one on the right is St. Thomas, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Ghana's coastline is the Gold Coast. Go further west, you're in the Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) or the Pepper Coast (Liberia). Go East, and you're in the Slave Coast (Togo/Benin/Nigeria). Yikes.
I couldn't imagine being lessened to no more than resources of a land, human or material. Colonisation was brutal.
Imagine Germany held onto Puerto Rico and San Juan is Neu-Potsdam or something and artist like Luis Fonsi are called Sebastian Maier and sing German Latino music
Hello, first Thing i would like to say, i love your Quizzes. Youre doing so good work and your Quizzes are great! I would like to ask, if i can translate all your featured Quizzes with a map that arent available in german right now. I already translated the 1870 one (got a feature) and the before WW2 one. Would be cool, if we can play them in german
Or im doing a comment under every quiz i translate, so you can see it but i dont have to wait for the answer and can translate directly. So like a cooperation
Ghana and Mauritania is rather difficult to understand though perhaps I'm just not very much experienced with the coastlines
This quiz is about knowing what territories Prussia held, not about recognizing islands on a map.

even british virgin islands
