Territories occupied in Thrace were occupied during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, while most of the eastern parts of Turkey come from areas occupied by Russia during World War I.
Djibouti was never an official settlement by the Russian Empire, just a bunch of Russian settlers trying to establish a colony independently of russia, the Russian empire even denounced them to France, don't get why you put it as an colony since the Russian Empire officially had nothing to do with it. This is an interesting point. Warsaw Block countries were officially sovereign countries with their own governments but those governments were puppets of the USSR. So in a sense they were controlled. I suggest a definition of control or a statement in the instructions that Warsaw Block countries are not included may be in order. There again, a map is provided so it’s pretty obvious. Nice quiz. I learned quite a lot.
Russia leased (which is different from actually owning the territory) a naval base in Tartus (the new government cancelled it recently, I think), but this quiz is specifically the Russian Empire, not the Russian Federation (or Soviet Russia for that matter).
Kauai (1811) and Bay Area (1811-1841) in the United States: Russian fortifications of Fort Elizabeth and Fort Ross.
Montenegro (1806-1807): Russian occupation of Kotor.
France (1815-1818): Russian occupation zone after the Napoleonic Wars.
Germany (1793-1807, 1813-1818): Lordship of Jever under Russian control.
Lebanon (1772, 1773-1774): Occupations of Beirut.
Djibouti (1889): Very short-lived (one month) attempt at a Russian settlement in Sagallo.
Thanks!
