Crazy how low all these populations were just a hundred years ago. Biggest cities with 60,000 and 20,000 while today they have multiple cities well on their way to a million inhabitants

Yep. A city of 100,000 was considered huge for a large part of history. Though in this case, historical Palestine had become a sparsely populated backwater for the longest time, especially under late Ottoman rule.

Thanks! It's unfortunately true that a lot of the places that were depopulated were ancient settlements. Modern-day Ashdod, Ashkelon and Tzipori (Sepphoris) have their newer urban cores located some distance away from the ancient cores for example.
