I love the idea. I made a few mistakes which I regret. Could you clarify that the "planned by" question is asking for a person?

It says ‘which was planned, in part, by…’. That’s not remotely clear. I also immediately chose Great Britain.

Oh, I see what you mean now. I suppose something like, “where the poorly planned landing was largely blamed on…” could work. It’ll be up to Quizmaster though. :)

Level 83

I don't think that helps, sorry. The problem is that it's quite common to speak of military operations like this being planned by countries (e.g. "The invasion of Iraq was jointly planned by the US and UK"). Framing it as a question of blame still leaves open the possibility that the answer could be a country.

It needs to be clear in the wording that you're looking for an individual. So it would need to be something like "which, in his capacity as Prime Minister, was planned in part by..." Even though that gives a pretty huge clue to the answer.

Fair points. But he wasn’t PM until WWII. He was Lord of the Admiralty at that time. “where the Lord of the Admiralty who oversaw the attack was…” could work. A bit wordy though.

Could you make the congo question easier? maybe "The Kinshasa one is the ______ Republic of the Congo?"

If someone knows the capital of the DRC is Kinshasa, then wouldn't one also know it is the larger portion?

It took me a while to parse what you meant by portion, maybe something like "the larger republic of which is called..." could help get people on the same page.

Romantic is not wrong per se, but an overwhelming amount of people use Romance (to the point where Romantic starts to sound wrong). Not surprising since there is no issue with a double meaning then.

Best to stick to Romance :) (just wanted to let you know it is not actually incorrect)

I feel the Olympia questions stand out as disconnected, since George didn't have a capital city, and it's a different location from the next usage. It requires additional (albeit easy) logical steps.

The "who lost a 1776 war against..." comment feels a little off. The war started in 1775 and ended in 1783. 1776 is in there, and is when the United States declared independence, but it seems off to call it a 1776 war.

Great quiz! Had two wrong. After the first "ancient" I automatically typed Rome.. my bad.

The other error however with the question :"which borders a country that speaks" I answered Uralic. Which is not incorrect.

Perhaps add "the language" so there will be only one correct option.

I agree that if you had to choose between uralic and hungarian, hungarian would be the first choose, however, my eyes spotted uralic and hadn't registered hungarian yet. And I think in a chainquiz like this, there shouldn't be multiple possible answers (when that would cause the chain to break. When it can continue because they are interchangeable ofcourse there is no problem)

Again fun quiz, looking forward to doing more of these

Churchill was absolutely NOT leader of 'Great Britain'. That is the name of an island. It is not a country, and was not a country at the time of the event in question. The country is called the United Kingdom. The two terms mean different things and include different parts of the British Isles, so are not remotely interchangeable.

Nitpick but isn't DR Congo a valid answer for the French as an official language? How can we know which to pick (Belgium or Congo) before seeing the next question?

Likewise, isn't "Great Britain" a valid answer for who planned Gallipoli?

+2
Level 79

Great Britain is probably a fair point.

DR Congo doesn't work, though. DRC has one official language (French) and 4 national languages. Belgium is the only option that has 3 official languages.

Churchill wasn't the leader of Great Britain, which is not a political entity - he was the leader of the United Kingdom. 'Great Britain' refers to the main island in the British Isles, on which you find England, Scotland and Wales - but Northern Ireland is also part of the United Kingdom even though it's not on the island of Great Britain.
