Yes, but I do love the Ozymandias poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Look on my works ye mighty and despair!

Yes. The double meaning of that line probably makes it my favourite line in any literature ever. So clever in a poem that’s only about 50 words.

how so?

Well, the inscription was meant to mock other men who believed they were mighty because Ozymandias’ works were so impressive. But obviously after thousands of years his works had been destroyed by time. Now mighty men would look upon that inscription and despair because everything they ever did would eventually crumble to dust, disappearing forever. Time conquers all.

Well, only one actually murdered (though heavily goaded by his wife).

She also got the king's guards drunk so Macbeth could get past them, then smeared the guards' daggers with the king's blood from the murder weapon to frame them. Her hands are of Macbeth's colour, and had Duncan not resembled her father as he slept, she had done't.

Yeah, that's my second-favourite Shakespeare line. My favourite is from Much a Dugong About Nothing:

"Yea, my good lord. How still the evening is,

As hush'd on porpoise to grace harmony!"

For me the last one to fall was Henry VIII. I didn't think Shakespeare got quite that current.
+1
Level 79
Dec 13, 2024
It took place some 80 years before the play was written, so it wasn't too current.

Shouldn't that be "Shakespeare's Dante's Inferno"?

Done in 24 seconds, but I got really thrown off laughing at A Manatee for All Seasons. That manatee is just stalwart in his opposition to the king's divorce!
