I strenuously disagree that a sabaton isn't "specifically for the purpose of war or violence". It's a piece of armor, how is that not for the purpose of war?
Sure, it isn't a weapon, but the description didn't ask for only weapons.
I think swapping it out for something else entirely would be the better choice. That's like saying a bulletproof vest or a suit of armor aren't used for "war or violence." When else would you have a need for sabatons?
Definitely agree with their complete removal; especially given that they are a piece of metal armour, where any part of it can be used with lethal intent
Or maybe add that their primary use is to kill or maim another. I imagine that the hammers from a glockenspiel, the body of a hurdy gurdy or a large samovar could inflict a lot of damage up to death on another person.
Thanks. I actually did do explanations for wrong answers on one quiz, only to realize that they never show up. Perhaps with some fancy CSS stuff it could be done in the boxes themselves.
The gladiators that used them did so because they were specifically fisherman themed and were also armed with fishing nets, they were called retiarii and were kinda laughed at because their weapons suck
Well, fair, but I'll hang my hat on the dangpa then. It's a trident used in South Korean martial arts. Tridents have been used specifically for actual combat at times, and in most people's minds they are a weapon. :)
Any object is a weapon if you hold it right and some esoteric martial art that uses them with no use in actual warfare means nothing. And in your own words "specifically for the purpose of war or violence", no. The trident was designed for fishing, and unless you equate fishing with violence, you are flat out wrong on this and I will die on this hill. Great quiz otherwise!
You take your fishing pole and I'll take an actual weapon! Seriously though I thought it was a trick answer. To avoid future grumbling by others dorky as me, I humbly submit Kukri or balisong as possible replacements. God bless :)
Most premodern weapons were originally peasant tools. They were often refined for warfare.Others were used for hunting. That still makes them a weapon, and that would include fishing, as it is a type of hunting.
Just wait until we sit down to tea with latkes and unagi and I clock you over the head with my samovar (acquired with dinars, of course). Nobody will see it coming because I'll be stealthily concealed by my balaclava
I think it was on the third page on the pixabay search for medieval weapons. Lol, probably two guy who got paid 50 bucks to pose for hundreds of stock photos, I guess.
Yes, the trident was first made for fishing, but soon became a weapon in many cultures and religions: Korea, Hinduism (Shiva is associated with the trident), Rome, etc.). If it became an often-used weapon, then it's a weapon. An axe was first made to cut meat and wood, but if you don't think it is a weapon, then my Dwarf friend Gimli has a word or two for you.
Good quiz! Tridents were used for fishing mostly. Although they were used in combat they were not invented specifically for war. Also, Nunchuks were used to break up rice from its casing! So it also was not created secifically for war. Fun fact, the majority of weapons used by shinobi were easily accessible farming equipment, which helped them smuggle it into cities.
Sure, it isn't a weapon, but the description didn't ask for only weapons.
Outstanding quiz, Dimby
Quiz overall was very fun!
