In the Georgia country quiz it is claimed that wine Georgians produced wine for 8000 years, which contradicts the claim that is being made here.

Perhaps it could be better worded, but Armenia has the site with the earliest archeological evidence of the steady production of wine.

Did they commit genocide or attempt it?

They committed it. According to Wikipedia, "Genocide is the intentional action to destroy a people—usually defined as an ethnic, national, racial, or religious group—in whole or in part."

Who is the they that your pronoun is referring to? The Ottomans? Or the Armenians? If the former, then what Quizmaster said. If the latter... not that I'm aware of, but the place has a long history so probably.

committed it.

I initially read the second-last hint as 'grandmothers' instead of 'grandmasters', so I was thinking of festivals where lots of elderly people would attend... 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂

Armenia was not the first site of wine beverage, it was it's neighbor-Georgia. In Georgia wine production counts 8000 years. So the earliest samples of grape seeds date back to the 6000 BC. You can google it, it's officially known for everyone. Georgia is the first winemaker :))

Finding grape seeds doesn't mean that wine making was practiced in that particular area. People could just eat it. The oldest archeological site i.e. winery was found in Armenia in Areni 1 cave in 2007-2008 by a joint Armenian-Irish-American group of archeologists. That's why Armenia, not Georgia is officially known as the oldest site of winemaking, despite Georgians claim the opposite. But to be honest, 6100 or 8000 years ago no Armenians or Georgians existed yet. So, territories of both countries were populated by related to each other tribes. That's why both countries at the same time may be called as the cradle of winery.

I feel dumb. I drove right by Lake Sevan on my way back to Tbilisi from Yerevan. Stopped and took photos, too. But I missed that one.

penultimate question doesn’t really make sense, chess isn’t an event in itself. answer should either be Chess World Championship or whatever, or the question changed to ask for the game/sport

If you allege that there is a commitment of genocide, you have to put concrete arguments.
Level 67
Nov 14, 2020
The Armenian genocide is well-documented. I'd say if you are alleging that a commonly-accepted historical event did not happen, it's incumbent on you to bring the arguments.
Level 61
Nov 15, 2020
No one here is alleging anything. The Armenian Genocide is well-documented, historical fact. If you are saying it didn't happen, then please present your evidence. Otherwise, stop spreading these vicious lies.

Armenia geographically isn't located in Caucasus Mountain range. It's located in the range of Lesser Caucasus or Caucasus Minor which is part of Armenian Highland.
