I'm going hard for the Country Trivia badge right now... it's pretty sad to realise just how many countries of the world have "oil" as their top export! Hope that changes.
I was supposed to go to Gabon to see the Gorillas this year, thanks Covid for ruining my travel plans in addition to everything else it wrecked this year.
Someone I would have known but who didn't show up here: Albert Schweitzer, who was already an esteemed organist and theologian when he took up studies in medicine in his 30s and became a doctor in order to found a hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon. He was awarded the Peace Nobel Prize for his charitable work in 1952.
We still have a statue of him in Deventer, NL. Apparently a foundation was started here to finance his work in Gabon. He would come to play organ concerts and raise money for his charity. History is great!
