They are the same, except Melaka is in Malay while Malacca is English. Just like Kyiv in Ukrainian and Kiev in English.

Yes, but the native name is usually a type-in.

I'm from Malaysia and durian is one of my favourite fruits. I find it delicious and not at all stinky (I actually like its smell!).

I like the smell too - better than I like the taste! Unless it's fermented into tempoyak, which is delicious.

From what I've heard, it tastes kind of like a sort of cheese. Or smells like it. One of the two.

I am from Malaysia so i just want to clarify this. We have national flower, animal, flag, car etc but the durian has not been officially named the national fruit of the country. It so happens that almost everyone here loves the fruit. I think this clue will be better: This fruit is dubbed the King of all fruits.

Another one, flogging should be accepted as alternative answer for caning.

I tried flogging, whipping, beheading, hanging, stoning, cut hands off, everything. Except caning.

Nothing wrong with the question - I'm just curious: when I've been in George Town (and I haven't for twenty years now), almost everyone called the city "Penang" for all unofficial purposes. Is that still normal?
+6
Level 80
Aug 15, 2020
George Town is the name of the city on Penang Island, which is part of the state of Penang.
+2
Level 60
Aug 15, 2020
I've always known it as Penang. Didn't even know it was called George Town.
+3
Level 81
Aug 15, 2020
Wikipedia says George Town is Malaysia's 3rd most populous city while "Greater Penang" is the country's 2nd largest "conurbation." So maybe George Town is the name of the central municipal area and Penang (or Greater Penang) is the urban area? ... sort of like New Delhi vs. Delhi, or Sri Kotte whatever and Colombo, or the City of London vs. London, or to a lesser extent Monte Carlo vs. Monaco or Brooklyn vs New York?

Might make sense to accept Penang and Greater Penang as type-ins.

Spaces are not relevant in JetPunk quizzes (i.e. typing 'Ge Or Get Own' would have worked)

Bit of a nitpick perhaps, but first asking for the name of an urban area named for a British king and then asking which country colonized it seems like a giveaway... I would at least change the order. Otherwise very nice quiz.
