Hint Answer Trigonometric function defined as the ratio between the opposite side and the hypotenuse Cosine Conic section that has an eccentricity equal to 1 Parabola Part of the quadratic formula inside the radical sign that determines the number of distinct roots of a quadratic equation Discriminant A special kind of differential equation which has the form: dy/dx + yP(x) = Q(x)y^n Bernoulli A property of a square matrix A that is denoted by |A| Determinant A type of beam that has a fixed support at only 1 end Cantilever Condition that occurs when the sum of all forces and the sum of all moments acting on a body are equal to zero Equilibrium Ratio between the deformation of a body caused by subjecting it to stress and its original length Poisson's ratio Stress divided by strain (when the body obeys Hooke's Law) Modulus of elasticity Change in pitch that occurs when a sound source is moving with respect to the listener Doppler effect The frequency of a pendulum is only dependent on the acceleration due to gravity and this property of the pendulum Length Electric current multiplied by the voltage results in this quantity Power When circuit elements are arranged in this type of circuit, the current flowing through them is constant Series An integral transform that converts a function in time to a function of s which is equal to the integral of the product of the function in t and e^(-st), from zero to infinity Laplace The law of thermodynamics that states: if object A is in thermal equilibrium with object B, and object B is in thermal equilibrium with object c, then object A is in thermal equilibrium with object C. Zeroth The most efficient type of heat engine Carnot A thermodynamic quantity that represents the degree of disorder in a system Entropy A type of interest which is of the form F = P(1 +iN) where F is the future worth, P is the present worth, i is the interest, and N is the number of interest periods Simple The loss of value of a certain investment from its present worth until it reaches its salvage value Depreciation The oldest type of engineering profession Civil
