Good quiz, had no idea regarding the official language of the Maldives, surprised and not quite convinced that 73% of quiz takers knew that it was 'Dhivehi'.... without doing the quiz first.
What do you mean nobody calls it Maldivian? I live in Delhi and my friend from Maldives literally use the word 'Maldivian' for her language all the time. "In Maldivian, this is called ...", etc. I've only heard the word 'Dhivehi' once from her mouth and only when I asked her specifically on it.
@Xenobiologista, usually when they ask which sea or which ocean does country X borders, you can just answer "Black [sea]" or "Indian [ocean]". However, in this clue you are asked for a *body of water*, so you have to not only type the name of the body of water, but also what type it is (ocean, sea, gulf, bay...).
Atolhu is a Dhivehi word that means something like province. Maldivian provinces have historically corresponded closely with groups of coral islands that form parts of former shorelines of now-submerged volcanic islands. It's this meaning that has been adopted by others. There are 26 physical atolls in the Maldives, comprising about 1190 islands (so, they're not "islands").
So Shaq O'Neal, who is 7'1', is taller than this entire country
