When I cross-pollinate my quizzes I go for ones with similar themes and sometimes have to struggle to come up with good ones. Not the case here. I guess the fact that I live in Saudi Arabia contributes to that, I've got so many quizzes related to this place. My Pork Eschewing Countries and Censorship Around the World quizzes I've linked to before. Here are a few more:
and finally, probably the most obvious one. QM also removed my question about the founder of Saudi Arabia, but he still appears on the above linked quiz.
Seriously? I've been to that airport many times. It seems pretty tiny compared to others I've visited like Changi, BWI, Atlanta, O'Hare, Narita etc. but I have not surveyed the entire premises.
Weird. Why would they designate over 700 square kilometers for the airport when the actual airport uses barely more than 30? I guess they weren't using it for anything else? Really paranoid about security? Certainly a curiosity... though I noticed at least one factual error in that article. It claims Denver was voted the best airport in the world. It was not and never has been. Singapore has the world's best airport, Denver is only 29th - the best in the USA according to Skytrax in 2018.
Denver is one of my LEAST fav airports in the US. Not only the creep factor, but I usually travel with my cat, and they are forever sending me to the wrong security checkpoint, which has sniffer dogs so I have to go clear around to the other one that doesn't have them.
Atlanta is the only other one that edges it out because some part of the place always seems to break down when in ATL for some reason and their apathy is a complete mood.
I think I had a layover in Denver once but that's the only time I've been and I don't remember it.
For me most airports in the USA are pretty much the same. The only one that really stands out that I have used before is the one in Champaign, Illinois, which had a single short runway, only 2 gates, and basically no security at all.
I've saved about a hundred thousand dollars the last couple years here doing very little. This appeals to my sanity. I'm going to be leaving soon ans taking a four year vacation to do some traveling.
Quizzler got a bug up his butt about me at some point and was spending a large amount of time leaving comments trying to insult me.... this was such an attempt. I used to live and work in Saudi Arabia.
^no argument from me, there. I would even use harsher language. Saudi Arabia is a godless asinine profoundly-racist profoundly-sexist soul-crushing blasted hellscape of an unrelenting waking nightmare built on outrageous hypocrisy and the corpses of the many slave laborers and suicidal women it has driven into an early grave. And, granted, at least half of the people I met working there were kooks. But the other half were of sound mind and recognized that it made good financial sense.
They don't do it at a palace. They do it next to Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in a place nicknamed "chop chop square." I've driven past there but have no desire to see a person get their head lopped off.
Shouldn't it be seas and gulfs that border the Arabian Peninsula if all five of those answers are included? Only the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea border Saudi Arabia. Good quiz. Got close to getting all of them but couldn't remember the currency or the name of the new monarch.
I answered Gulf of Aqaba right away but was thinking about the other two when I realized you gave us the answers in the first question about the cities.
Will the Saudis accept "Persian Gulf" rather than "Arabian Gulf" now? It always had to be the latter in the past. Of course, the Iranians were the opposite!
Quite the contrary, it was always the Persian Gulf in the past, even in Arab sources, up until about 15-20 years ago when they decided that because they didn't like Iran they were going to start calling it the Arabian Gulf. They're still carrying on with that nonsense as much as ever, but fortunately this is not a Saudi website, so...
I'm not being ignorant or offensive. I'm an arab. I'm a muslim (sort of). I've lived in over 9 countries in my life (5 of them in the Middle East), I lived in Riyadh for 10 years, and by far Saudi Arabia is the most oppressive, closed minded, prickly piece of crap country in the world, and its residents should all die.
I'm inclined to agree. I mean... overall... some places like Somalia, Palestina (Gaza, if that counts), Islamic State (if that counts), Taleban-controlled Waziristan, Syria and Niger might be worse... but... these are impoverished failed states. Saudi Arabia doesn't have that excuse. They have money and resources. They have infrastructure that was built for them. They have stability and rule of law. Still they choose to live in the 14th century. Also... unless it's November the climate is unbearable. If there is a god he's obviously trying to kill them all. I don't know why anybody would ever exist there and not move somewhere else.
Well it's 2019, and the country is reforming really quickly. One day it will become a tourist hub like Dubai but I hope your ass will get blacklisted. It's always easy to talk crap behind an anonymous name.
I haven't been back in years but my friends there confirm that much has changed. A lot hasn't. But yes, they are, at least currently, rapidly moving in a positive direction. To me the most encouraging change of the past 6 years has been the change to the law that made it possible for female Saudis to travel without the permission of their mahram (owner). 2nd would be stripping the muttawa/haiyya/CPVPV (religious police) of basically all their power and authority. 3rd would be allowing women to drive. and then other good things further on down the list like opening up movie theaters for the first time...
there seems to be a contradiction in acknowledging it’s an oppressive country, and saying its residents should all die. if, as you say, they deserve to die then why are you concerned if they’re oppressed? that last part moves beyond hyperbole into advocating the death of millions, and it’s a shame because it undermines the quite valid and important point you made up to there
Would you consider accepting "Arabian" Sea for "Persian" sea as well? I realize it's more of geopolitical thing but, if we're being specific, it would be known as such in Saudi Arabia. I only know this because it was hammered into my head via my employee handbook when I was in Kuwait.
I would prefer not to. Even in Saudi Arabia the body of water you're referencing was known as the Persian Gulf, before about 1970 and as far back as Alexander the Great. I'm not going to change it just because the Arabs don't like Iran.
The body of water you're referring to has been called the Persian Gulf, even in Arab sources, for centuries. Saudi Arabia and some of their allies have started, in recent history, to insist that we change the name to Arabian Gulf because they don't get along well with Iran. I'm disinclined to give in to their whims, mostly because the Gulf doesn't belong to them.
I'm not "talking crap" about anyone, I'm speaking the truth. I know that's punishable by death in Saudi Arabia, one of the worst things about the country, hopefully the citizens of the kingdom will come to realize this themselves one day. In the classes I taught in Riyadh and Dammam there was usually one bright student who did among the 10 or 15 who did not. So it's not like the situation is completely hopeless.
No, I did not mean you. You're totally fine and a nice smart guy. If you look back, you will see that I was replying to Keemotherapy9. Also, talking crap is not punishable by death no matter what the incident was. Even atheists in modern-day Saudi Arabia don't get the death penalty. Back to our topic, your claim was that Arabian Gulf is a newly-coined term, but this is not true. Although we can say the majority of cartographers have mentioned the Persian Gulf, there were many old Ottoman, French, and Dutch maps that mentioned the Arabian Gulf instead. Among the most notable ones are "Turcici Imperii Imago" and "L'Empire des Turcs by Jollain", in which they date back to 1659 and 1667, respectively. So at least accepting Arabian Gulf as a possible answer would be fairer since they are both historically proven, despite the fact that one of them is politically driven nowadays.
sorry. I didn't see where your comment was so I thought it had been deleted. You don't think if you were openly critical of the prophet Muhammad or of the royal family or Muhammad bin Salman, that your life would be in danger? (like Jamal Khashoggi, maybe?) and what about the law passed (in 2014, I think?) that labeled different things such as atheism and vandalism to be acts of terrorism? If prosecuted under this law... terrorists can receive the death penalty in Saudi Arabia, no? My students from Qatif told me they saw people gunned down in the streets for protesting the government, I'd consider protest to be a form of free speech, or "talking crap."
Interesting point about the Arabian Gulf I'd have to look in to that. I've looked up many old Arab maps before that label the body of water as the Persian Gulf. I still think that's the name most know it as, in the wider world. it's unfortunate the Saudis and Iranians can't get along better.
It's okay no worries. I'm pretty sure being openly critical of the Prophet Muhammad will put your life in danger in any part of the Middle East, or to be more precise, any part of the world that has a big population of Muslims. The government will not mind your atheistic beliefs as long as you don't cause a public outrage. We have a large number of atheists in Saudi Arabia. According to Gallup Global Index Of Religiosity And Atheism (https://sidmennt.is/wp-content/uploads/Gallup-International-um-tr%C3%BA-og-tr%C3%BAleysi-2012.pdf), 25% of the Saudi population consider themselves non-religious and 5% are convinced atheists. This puts it ahead of many Asian, American and European countries. The law that was passed in 2014 was very theoretical and not in practice. I noticed many Saudi writers recently started to openly question religion and their beliefs, so I believe tolerance to atheism is on the rise. Talking about the Arabian Gulf, yes I think it's important to look into that.
Muhammad bin Salman is the crown prince, not the king. bin Salman means literally "son of Salman"... he's the king's son, and next in line for the throne, though everyone agrees he is exercising more power and authority than any previous crown prince in Saudi history.
Those are, like Fishbone's, extremely bad suggestions.
... aside: some of the other things, granted, but you're really trying to phallus wave about which country is worse between the KSA and USA.. and bring up child marriage?
You seem confused. Fundamentalism is a well understood thing, and is an approach to religious interpretation in many different religions. Salafism is also a well understood approach to Islamic jurisprudence, and Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab was a real person. I'd encourage you to read some more on all of these subjects before commenting again.
The Islam Quiz
I still need to tweak this one a little before it's ready for prime time, but I'm also pretty happy with it just as is.
Last Countries to Abolish Slavery
QM removed my question about slavery on this quiz for something he thoughts was easier, so here's this one, too.
Though Saudi malls only come close to making this list, inarguably Saudis love to shop.
Countries by Namesake
One answer on this quiz will help you out with one answer above.
Personality Cults- Name That Miracle!
Just a bit of fun.
Kings of Saudi Arabia
and finally, probably the most obvious one. QM also removed my question about the founder of Saudi Arabia, but he still appears on the above linked quiz.
Have fun and Salaam Alayikoum
@kalbahamut
Thanks for the helpful advice...
Some of those quizzes were really nice, and I notice a common subject in all.

Answer: "0".

That being said, I got 19 out of 24.
and don't get me started on the drivers...
