Based of points earned. Teams are given 3 points for every win and 1 point for every draw (for the knockout stages the score after extra time is relevant).

I have assigned the tournaments played and the respective scores of West Germany, the USSR and Czechoslovakia to the modern versions of Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic, as the core of these former nations can reasonably be transferred to the modern versions. I have not done the same for Yugoslavia and Serbia. Although Serbia was the core of Yugoslavia, the former nation split into many countries, all of which had too great an impact on the European Championship to centralize the former nation into a current one. Furthermore, Yugoslavia in its original form was arguably more culturally diverse than the other nations mentioned, which naturally makes it more difficult to centralize it in a modern form
