Guess the Map

Guess what each of the maps represents.
For example, this image represents religions by country, so "religions" would be an acceptable answer.
Maps that would have been too obvious with their legend have been cropped.

I actually knew a bunch of these but didn't know what you wanted me to type. So you should accept more type-ins.

exactly, I spent all the time trying "drives on the left", "Left hand drive", "Driving on the left", "Driving on left" etc.

I'm sorry to hear that, especially since "left driving", "left hand driving" and others combination would have worked. The regex type-in were "^LEFT(HAND|LANE)?DRIV(E|ING)" and "^C(OU|UO)NTRIES(THAT|WHICH)DRIVEONTHELEFT". I have now added the ones you mentioned.

I knew that would be a problem with this quiz, so I tried to add as many type-in as I could, but it looks like they weren't enough. I have now added some. If you have any suggestions, please do leave another comment.

Thank you, I have no idea how I forgot to set that as a type-in. Added.

Great quiz! I would consider adding more of these! :D

Thank you! I might make more of these in the future, but it's quite tough to think of maps that would be interesting without making the quiz too hard, so for now I am focusing on finishing my other series.

This was a brilliant quiz! I suggest some more typeins on the left-hand ones , or maybe use blanks

I think the German reich one was actually the Nazi Germany map. The Greater German Reich was the Nazi's plan, where they almost takes all of the European part of the USSR. Also, the last one isn't that hard given that you can see "A", "B" as such makes it easier.

The confusion comes from the fact that the Greater German Reich was indeed the political entity envisioned by the Nazi party, as you said, but it was also the official name of what is colloquially referred to in English as Nazi Germany for the last couple of years before its defeat. In any case "Nazi Germany", as well as "Third Reich", "Germany in 1942", and "1942 Germany" are all set as type-ins.

In regards to the last one, you actually need to know the names of the different plugs and then relate those names to what is shown on the map to understand what the map is indicating. If you had no problem figuring the map out, congratulations! I'm not sure I would have. The difficulty indicators are by nature a little subjective.

Thank you for the comment!

I couldn't figure out how to word the first one! Can you accept more along the lines of 'German occupation' or 'Nazi occupation'?

This was a very interesting quiz. I had to do it a few times without looking at the answers to give me time to guess more of them. For me in New Zealand, the electric plug one and the driving on the left were two of the easiest ones. As a Kiwi travelling overseas, you need to check out what electric plug you need.

Great quiz. Commonwealth has new members so the map needs to be updated.

Thank you, I have now updated the Commonwealth map as well as the NATO Countries to reflect recent developments. I can't believe it's already been more than two years since I made this!

One of the things makes this very difficult are all the approximately-congruent co-factors. For example, the French empire is quite close to the francophone world. Empires especially brought so many things with them that--to a first approximation--they'll all roughly be the same map. British empire, current commonwealth, left-hand drive, English-speaking, cricket-playing, etc. all kind of go together. They're obviously not *exactly* the same, of course, but the broad strokes are often really similar.

I love the idea behind this quiz, but unfortunately I don't know of a good way around that factor, or the difficulty of accepting free text answers. I wish I did because I love approaching these trivia items from this direction.

I love this idea! If you're not considering making a US - centric one, would you mind if I try? I'd link it to yours as the inspiration (:

Good quiz, missed Buddhists and electrical plug (I tried outlet and computer plug, didn't work I guess..)

Unlucky, just typing plug or socket would have worked! I've added outlet to the type-ins now, thank you for the feedback.
